She died today aged 92. I will always remember her in "Genevieve" with John Gregson, Kenneth More & Kay Kendall. In the film she broke up a scuffle between Gregson and More, accusing them of behaving like "hauling brooligans" Laughing

Also of course she played the mother in "The Railway Children" starring Jenny Agutter.

RIP.

I love both those films. Are any of the stars of Genevieve still alive - well, I guess I mean is John Gregson still with us?

An English rose ....as I thought she came over as ..who had a German mother and a Russian father

Love both the classic films mentioned already that she was in.

"She practically played herself as the mother in that film, (The Railway Children) except in real life she has been much more smiling, even though she hasn't had much to smile about at times," her son Jeremy once told an interviewer..

I loved both films as well, especially Genevieve, from about 1954. I love watching the location scenes --empty roads, no yellow lines, all the classic cars.

The Railway Children does seem a bit cloyingly sentimental in retrospect though.

Sad news. I remember her from Don't Wait Up in the 80s as well as the films.

RIP

So I'm not the only one that remembers the "hauling like brooligans" line!

Funnily enough we just watched Genevieve on DVD a couple of weeks back. If we watch it we try to do so around the time of the London-Brighton rally, though we were two weeks late this year.
