Thanks for that Mark. Some vaguely interesting stuff in late evenings, but generally appears to be stand-ins playing the same music we hear the rest of the year.

I hope Mark Goodier is not just for Christmas. And here's hoping that another Mark who was seemingly unceremoneously dumped on a whim also comes back, and that's Mark Lamarr.

Amazed and delighted to see Mark Goodier back on the BBC

Christmas Eve actually looks rather good - pleased to see Sara Cox given a chance - I think she's actually quite intelligent contrary to the usual image portrayed - I suppose we'll all dip in and out of what appeals to us Smile

I wasn't surprised seeing Mark Goodier back on Radio 2. He leaves Smooth week before. Wise Buddah does a lot of work for Radio 2, so expect him to cover a few shows in 2013 as he's a safe pair of hands.

Highlights

Monday 31st December 5-7pm

Johnny Vaughan’s Swinging Session

Johnny Vaughan presents music from an era that's been labelled the age of the 'crooner', the swinging singer with the Great American Song Book.
Whatever the end of the 1940s and the 1950s is called today, its legacy is some of the greatest recordings in popular music - performed by some of the greatest voices of all time. Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington, Dean Martin are just some of the everyday pop singers making everyday music in an era when people bought records in their millions.

But it's far from a dead and buried musical style, all tied up in memory and nostalgia. Some of today's headline singers - Michael Buble and Caro Emerald among them - look to this era as a jumping off point for their own talents, singers who take in the best from the past and reinvent it for their audiences today.

Presenter/Johnny Vaughan, Producer/Terry Carter

New Years Eve - Day 10pm-1am

Tony Blackburn leads Radio 2's New Year's Eve celebrations, with a selection of upbeat soul hits from the past 50 years.
The playlist includes classic tracks, such as Womack & Womack's Love; Chairmen Of The Board's Give Me A Little More Time; Doris Troy's Just One Look; Shakatak's Easier Said Than Done; KC & The Sunshine Band's That's The Way I Like It; The Fatback Band's (Do The) Spanish Hustle; Chaka Khan's I'm Every Woman; and Thelma Houston's Don't Leave Me This Way.

Presenter/Tony Blackburn, Producer/Phil Swern (Unique)

News Years Day - 2 -5pm

The Nation’s Favourite No. 2 Single
Tony Blackburn counts down an Official Top 40 of the nation’s favourite singles which never quite made it to the top of the Official Singles Chart. As a climax to the programme, and to mark the 60th anniversary of the Official Singles Chart, the nation’s favourite Number 2 single will be bestowed with an honorary Number 1 by the Official Charts Company.
A panel consisting of industry experts including Radio 2 presenters Ken Bruce, Tony Blackburn and Janice Long; Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot and charts director Omar Maskatiya; Radio 1 presenter Annie Nightingale; Radio 6 Music presenter Steve Lamacq; Head of Music for Radio 1 & 1Xtra, George Ergatoudis; and a number of other key industry figures whittled a list of 941 number two tracks down to 107 tracks. The list is made up of every number two record since 1952.

This show will give Radio 2 listeners the chance to hear some of their all-time favourite tracks and will be a celebration of some of the greatest songs from the past 60 years.

Presenter/Tony Blackburn, Producer/Phil Swern (Unique)

New Years Day & 2nd & 3rd January 8-9pm

60 Years Of The Charts

Paul Gambaccini presents a three-part series celebrating 60 years of British chart action.
The first chart of best-selling records in the UK - a Top Twelve - was published in the New Musical Express for the week ending 15 November 1952.

Part one reveals the origins of the sales chart, which developed from sheet music sales and underwent various refinements over the years.

Significant chart records are featured: the first rock 'n' roll record to reach number one, the first British act to top the list, the longest runs at number one, and the artists with the most number ones.

Listeners will also get to hear the most successful male artists, female artists and groups, plus the first number one based on digital sales alone.

Presenter/Paul Gambaccini, Producer/Kevin Howlett (Howlett Media)

Thank you Mark. My eye was caught by the New Year's Eve Swinging Session and Gambo's 60 years of the Charts on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Jan - well, the earlier stuff any way! Should be interesting.

It's Christmas Day,Helen ....with Listen Again it doesn't really matter but you might want to listen on the day as it goes out.

I'll be making a point of listening to Bill, but it will have to be Listen Again for me....and I hope to catch Guy Garvey and Ed Stewart's programmes in the same way before they disappear from the iPlayer

Thank you, Mark, for posting the schedule

That show he did this morning, was quite unbearable, I thought. The only thing that could have made it any worse, was if Gary Davies had showed up. Five minutes was enough.

I've enjoyed Radio 2 today and listened for longer than I have done on any one day for years. I tuned in for Richard, then stayed for Sara, Mark and Cerys, so for me its been a good Christmas Eve on the radio.

Definitely Alex Lester instead of Vanessa Feltz & Richard Allinson instead of that berluddy Annoying, headache inducing CBBC presenter that is usually on Mon-Fri breakfast slot , someone remind me what his name is again Please!
Because I was out, I didn't hear any more before Cerys Matthews who is great on 6 music and was great again today. I will listen to Sarah Cox who I've previously heard filling in for other presenters (like the aforementioned Vanessa Feltz) and did a good job, likewise Mark Goodier who I enjoyed when he previously deputised for others. Good to have him back. Let's hope it's not just for Christmas!

Also With Mark Goodier and Sara Cox even though Richard Allinson wasn't the in the old Radio 1 set up, it shows the celebrities were blown out of the window for the best part of the Radio 2 schedules for the festive period. I do like the festive schedule.
