Anyone had a horse burger? It's neigh biggy I guess from a food safety point of view but it does show that all those EU safeguards, food safety directives and labeling directives are a load of old box ticking nonesense. Although to say that eating horse is ok , it does depend on the horse, the horse in the burgers might well be a load of rotten old, long term ill, now quite dead horses that were sent to a knackars yard for glue, there's nothing to stop them having ended up in tesco burgers.

The horse was probably the healthiest thing in the burgers - the meat is usually very low in fat, (apparently - I've never eaten it), and it is in high demand in several European countries (although I did notice that, in France, only butchers sell it - you can't nip across the Channel to the Carrefour hypermarket for a joint). Only British sensibilities, and the suspicion that it might come from the knacker's yard, count against it being offered for sale here.

Hands up all those who thought, when they first heard the report, that they'd found Shergar at last.

I was in Tesco's cafe today. The waitress asked me: 'do you want anything on your burger?'

I replied 'yes please. A fiver each way'.

With all the column inches rushing to the defence of horse meat today, Tesco could well have the last laugh.

What sort of cheese do put on a cheeseburger made with dead horse to hide that tinge of stable?. Mascarpone!

Breaking news.
In a new development, Tesco have now found traces of zebra in their barcodes.

As soon as I read the title of this thread, I heard music in my head:
"Lipstick on Your Collar"! It scans perfectly.

Any lyricists on here who could expand the thread into a song? Smile

Alex Cunningham,a Labour backbencher asked the PM yesterday in PM's Questions ‘On food safety, may I ask if traces of stalking horse been found in the Conservative food chain?’

(A reference to Adam Afriyie’s reported challenge to David Cameron's leadership of the Tory Party)
