Sorry to be pedantic but how can a programme called Sunday Half Hour occupy an hour's spot Shocked

Is the name going to change?

As for listening figures I'm sure the programme used to have many regular listeners including me - I love my church music on a Sunday - but I guess listening figures are already well down since they brought in a former Blue Peter presenter in a role which had hitherto always been occupied by a 'Man of the Cloth'

That for me was writing on the wall so this new proposal really doesn't surprise me

It's yet another sign that traditional Christian British values are being sacrificed on the alter of this disaster which they call multiculturalism Mad

According to today's schedule, Sunday Half Hour is on at 20:30hrs (8:30pm in 'old money') http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/programmes/schedules
So, could a move to a morning slot actually be a promotion?

It's to be called Sunday Hour from 20th Jan.

I hadn't heard about this until someone sent me an e-mail this morning about it... "Sunday Hour" doesn't quite work as a title for me in the same way that "Sunday Half Hour" did.

Has Sunday Half Hour been on at 8.30pm since it started, does anyone know? Its certainly been there for as long as I can remember - but that doesn't mean much - I've only been a Radio 2 listener since 2002/3.

The BBC has also confirmed that Michael Ball will start a brand new Sunday evening show at 7pm.

I think it's been on at 8.30 for many, many years Fred.

Melodies For You was on ever since I started to listen to Radio 2 in the early 80s (I dipped in and out of it) and as far as I'm aware Sunday Half Hour always followed it. I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong!

On the credit side, it goes up to an hour. But what a poor slot! To the best of my knowledge it's been in an evening slot, usually 8:30, for over 70 years, so its move is bound to upset some. But I've hardly listened to it since Roger Royle left.

Meant to ask--does anyone know what kind of repertoire Michael Ball will be playing? Any chance he might pick up the sort of items which Alan Titchmarsh used to play?

I remember going back to around 1960 that as Helen says Melodies for you was on at 7.30pm (don't recall who presented it in those days) followed by Sunday Half Hour in it's current time slot

For many years it was followed by 'Your Hundred Best Tunes' - a programme which I used to love as a young child in the days before the Beatles era but I recall that show was not on the same network in the early sixties and transferred over from the old Home Service to what was then the Light Programme around the time when Radio One started in 1967

To me moving the timeslot of the programme from it's traditional one to the early morning is the broadcasting equivalent of dessecrating a religious graveyard though like Ian I don't listen any more because of the recent changes which have already been made

I've seen something on Twitter asking for your favourite classical tracks and a 'Singers Hall of Fame'.

Sunday Half-Hour as been on air since 1940, one of the longest running of all BBC programmes (beaten only by The Week in Westminster, The Daily Service and Choral Evensong).

Ruddlescat: 1960 Melodies for You could have been Eric Robinson?

I think the 7:30pm programme was Grand Hotel, with the Reginald Leopold Orchestra. I associate Eric Robinson more with Sunday morning, though he could have been on in the evening as well.

Presumably because the ubiquitous Balding didn't want to start at 6.00, like Aled, so mthe need to fill an hour

I believe that 'Feedback' will be talking to Bob Shennan in the near future and I'd be amazed if this isn't covered.

Oh dear Childprufe. Balding is indeed taking over Good Morning Sunday but from 7.00am, not 6.00 as Aled did. Thus, as previously stated, the need to fill an extra hour
