Sadly Reg, lead singer of The Troggs has passed away. I suppose he will always be remembered for writing "Love is all around" (is it still No. 1 btw?)

Not a bad thing to be remembered for,Number Six ...a lovely song.

I was sorry to hear this news last night

On the radio this morning it was said that Macca once said if he wasn't in The Beatles his next preferred band to be in would be The Troggs. Smile

RIP Reg and never fprget that 'Love is all Around' Sad

Oh and by the way Elvis Presley despite all his years of recording never had any song whichachieved No 1 in the British charts but Reg Presley did Very Happy

At the risk of being gooey it's "Our Tune". FWAAF was the big thing when we got together and it was our wedding song. Hope you've all still kept your breakfast

I loved The Troggs. 'Night Of The Long Grass' was my favourite. So many good songs, like 'With A Girl Like You'.

Ruddles: did I read you correctly? Elvis had 17 no.1s in the UK!

Really Schiz - I wasn't aware that any of his records reached the number one slot but as you are in possession of the Guinness Book of Hit Singles I'll defer to you on this one - mind you I was never a big fan of Elvis Presley anyway Smile

Elvis most definitely had plenty of No. 1s in the UK charts - far more than his namesake Reg.

My preferred source of chart data up to 1982 is not "The Guiness Book of Hit Singles" but a book called "The Top Twenty Book - The Official British Record Charts 1955-1982" .

It is the only book I know of that lists the charts based on the listings that were used for the official "Hit Parade" of the 1950s and later "Top of the Pops" and BBC Radio 1.

The Guinness Book takes its data from a multitude of sources and comes up with variations on what you would have heard if you were listening to a charts programme on the radio.
