How pathetic, hitting out at someone who can't and wouldn't stoop so low as to hit back.
In the article Mark gave the link for, she says the Duchess is not a "power player and a clever, determined woman" as Anne Boleyn was.
What a ridiculous statement. H.Mantel has damaged herself far more than she has damaged the Duchess of Cambridge. |

| After reading the entire piece, I don't think she was having a pop at our Kate at all, quite the reverse in fact. I think she was expressing sympathy for Kate's position in the Monarchy. 'twas the Monarchy she was having a pop at. |

I agree with Rach.Kate is through no fault of her own seen as this wonderful human being when all i can say i don't know what she sounds like,if we are not able to say things about the royal family what sort of society do we live in?

I think the media have slanted this because Mantel was hitting out at the media and the obsession with firstly Diana and now Kate. The mindless trivia of what she wears is why she's described as a clothes horse. Remember the fuss when she was discovered to have two breasts? Same as Fergie. Hard to believe it now but when the Mirror printed the picture of Fergie topless they had to reprint. Now Kate's pregnant the press will start to describe her as "radiant".
Mantel was only attacking the media who print this garbage and, through them, the section of society that actually pay good money to buy it

It was part of a 5,000 word lecture and should be read in context, I think she makes some fair points but I don't necessarily agree with her choice of words.
Overreaction as usual from some areas of the press (and on the JV show today)
Not an outrageous comment at all from Mantel. |

What do people expect from the wonderful British press - they change their position exactly whenever it suits them
It's not long since the tabloids were criticising Kate for being overweight but if someone else dares to criticise her who is not part of the corrupt press elite then all hell is let loose
By the way I'm not intending to malign the Duchess in any way but I'm simply making the point that the press is basically run by a bunch of crooks and hypocrites
