An article from The Telegraph.....
Channel 5 doubles normal audience with Dallas
Younger viewers boost Channel 5 audience figures for the first episode of US soap Dallas in 20 years.
Younger viewers of the relaunched soap Dallas were responsible for doubling Channel 5’s usual ratings yesterday.
2.9 million people tuned in last night for the first episode since 1991. Despite predictions that viewers would be fans of the soap in its previous incarnation, the audience was mainly made up of 16-34 year olds.
Many of those watching would not have remembered the original series about wealthy Texas oil dynasty the Ewings.
Weaned on a diet of American dramas about the rich such as The O.C. and Gossip Girl, young people appeared to have readily taken to the tales of sex, lies and shoulder pads among the Texan elite.
Dallas’s return to British television for the first time in 21 years took a total 'reach' of 4.8 million people – those who tuned in for more than three minutes – more than any other American drama on British TV so far this year, according to Channel 5.
The faces of Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe) and John Ross (Josh Henderson) would have been familiar to younger viewers from their characters in the hit show Desperate Housewives.
Jeff Ford, director of programmes at Channel 5, said: "This is an excellent result for the first episode of Dallas after so much anticipation and excitement around the show coming to Channel 5.
"I'm confident when we take into account people catching up with the show after transmission we'll break the four million mark."
The episode attracted more viewers than the final of the BBC Two spoof detective drama Vexed and Channel 4’s live coverage of Paralympics among all age groups.

Helen, glad you enjoyed it!
Becky, that's an interesting article from the Telegraph (my paperboy hasn't done the honours yet this morning ) I have never seen Desperate Housewives so was unaware of the appearances of John Ross and Christopher in it. If that is what it takes to bring in the younger viewers, it was good casting.
As for the quote from the Telegraph ... "I'm confident when we take into account people catching up with the show after transmission we'll break the four million mark." ... Well, I still can't replay Channel 5, and others are also having problems.

Dallas is living up to expectations! All that doubledealing, backstabbing, blackmailing ... with the great JR never far from the action. Loving it . |

I was almost feeling sorry for John Ross last night but by the end of the episode, last one for now, we were shown it was just a temporary blip as he returned to type under the malevolent influence of JR.
Lots of twists and turns throughout this first series, lots of which I didn't see coming, making it very enjoyable hokum |

I forgot to watch the last two episodes as subconsciously I must have lost interest due to the demise of Larry Hagman, who WAS Dallas. Next week is the last one in which he appears according to the Radio Times so I shall watch that.
Oh well, this really will be the end of Dallas . |

I've missed the last couple,too,Eileen....I had it on series linked but it doesn't appear to have worked the last couple of weeks and I hadn't missed it.The plots are so convoluted....much more so I think than they used to be ....that it takes some keeping up with and I don't know if I can be bothered anymore. I might watch Larry Hagman's last appearance though. |

I just watched the last 2 episodes back to back tonight and the plots are difficult to follow, it seems to be running along very fast.
I think the timings have changed Becky. I'm sure it was on at 9 but I changed my recording to the +1 setting, as it was going to clash with something else and I just left it, which would have meant 10pm. I noticed tonight that these last 2 episodes had been recorded at 11 pm so I wonder if Channel 5 rescheduled them?
I don't think it will be the same without old JR somehow.

I've registered for Channel 5 On-Demand as I've missed the last couple of episodes but I can't get it to play.
Has anyone else had this problem? I've reported it to Channel 5. |
