A wonderfully watchable actor. I wonder if he was EVER out of work?

I doubt it Eileen - he tended to portray a certain type of character but yet he was actually very versatile and if I remember correctly he wrote some pop music tracks back in the 1960's - I'm sure I've heard Brian Matthew mention that particular fact

A sad loss but a man who lived to a very decent age Smile

I spoke to him once, briefly, at a function about twenty years ago. He was wonderfully funny and self assured, and surely too talented for rubbish like 'Are You Being Served'. I didn't tell him that though.

I've just remembered that in the 1960s TV series "The World of Beachcomber" hosted by Spike Milligan, Frank Thornton used to present the spoof adverts for "Snibbo" the wonder substance which was useful for any number of different tasks like cleaning, sticking, drinking as a pick-me-up for the exhausted etc.

I'm hoping that some of those ads might be on the Beachcomber LP I've just bought on eBay. Can't wait to hear what else it might include!
