Airlines are considering to charge more for overweight people who fly as it uses more fuel.

That makes good sense as long as it's done tactfully.

Interesting survey the airlines carried out in Norway. Did they measure the weight of the aircraft, or see what type of people were flying to measure the fuel they were losing compared to a lighter flight?

But who's to say who is overweight - yes you might rely on the BMI formula but some people are simply heavier because they are 'big boned' without necessarily carrying much excess fat

I have to say I find the whole thing rather petty just like most other things in this day and age Rolling Eyes

Which survey are you talking about Mark?

You always know the weight of the aircraft before you start adding fuel, passengers, baggage etc. If you didn't, you couldn't even start to calculate your take off weight. May have been a long time ago but I've done a few loadsheets in my time!

I disagree. If you take a heavy bag you have to pay more.. why not the same if you take a heavy body? ... Make it simple: charge the tickets at at a cost per stone or pound or ounce or whatever- then everyone pays the same. If all the fat people sit on one side of the plane does it fly in circles?

No but if they all sat at the back (especially if the engines were at the tail end) it would be tail heavy and tip up on take off............

Don't get me wrong - I'm not seeking to defend overweight people - I just don't think this issue is all that important bearing in mind all the other problems in our world today Sad

It is if you're stuck on a long flight with Jabba the Hut in the next seat

Well there's a simple answer - don't fly - I really can't understand why anyone would want to do so by choice Rolling Eyes

I want to go to New York. I can't swim and I'm not Jesus Christ so walking is out. Anyway, why should I not fly? Because of some fattie? Not likely. And flying isn't a choice, it's the only way of getting to anywhere outside Europe

Personally speaking I hate flying but I realise sometimes one has to grit one's teeth and do it.
I have to say I find people kicking the back of the seat more annoying than overweight people. Laughing

I agree Toggy. I don't hate flying but I certainly don't enjoy it. All that hanging around, marching all around the airport. There's no fun any more, particularly if you're flying with Sleazyjet. Then again perhaps I'm getting on
