On Easter Monday from Janice Long right through the day until Jo Whiley from (2-5pm) when she'll reveal the number one album - Radio 2 will be counting down the Top 100 Albums of all time.
12-2pm on Easter Monday French and Saunders will return ( So guess they won't be doing the count down!) |

| I wonder what the criteria are for 'top albums'. Logically it should be best sellers, but knowing the idiots who run Radio 2 it will probably be 'most played', in which case we're in for the usual 80s drivel like Elvis Costello, Madonna and Queen. |

I think that's the one, where each group/artist is only allowed one album!
Ridiculous.
There are some classics there, but so many omissions as well. |

Agree it's odd and I wonder which track they will choose from each album that gets into the final list?
No doubt it will be the already overplayed track that made it to the singles chart...............

What a load of rubbish. It says more about the audience that has been attracted to Radio 2 in the last few years than the standard of the albums. How can Rumours, Sgt Pepper & Dark Side be rated below a forgettable album by Keane? Am I being a conspiracy theorist in seeing the footprint of record companies here?

Totally agree! As I think someone predicted earlier it was Coldplay who took the top spot. I had it on in the background for a while but I usually don't bother with these bank holiday chart shows, and won't if they dream up anymore of them!

I didn't listen since quite apart from the actual chart content with a couple of notable exceptions I wasn't keen on the selection of presenters on offer today

I didn't hear it all but like everyone here I'm appalled that classics like Sergeant Pepper, Dark Side, Thriller, Bridge Over Troubled Water etc should be beaten by Coldplay, Keane and bloody Duran Duran .
And why play so many obvious tracks (eg the hit singles)? I actually turned off when the brilliant Sticky Fingers was nominated, and then--in true Radio 2 style--they play Brown Sugar??!! If an album is a classic, surely by definition there are several tracks that can be played, not just the well known ones.

In true incestuous Radio2 fashion, this list is a vote based around a top 100 published earlier this year. As such it is the "listeners favourites of those most played on Radio2" albums of all time. That list itself only allowed one per artist, so the whole premise is pretty shakey.
Nevertheless, the results are out and WOW! It's not what I would have chosen but then it shows the tastes of voting listeners and is in no way a reflection of influence or other measure of quality. But Coldplay, Keane and Duran Duran - seriously? Blunt, and Dido????
Hard to argue that this does not reflect the likes of the Radio2 audience, but then that audience is created by being fed such a boring menu. It's interesting that the sequence has been "Here's the list of what we play, now pick your favourites" which can only result in a justification of what they play. More bland - it's what the listeners want!
If nothing else, it's shown me why I rarely listen during the day any longer.

What a strange carry on, produce a list of albums that are based on what's on R2 and claim they are peoples favourites. So when did listeners get a choice of what's played usually, and when did R2 start playing albums, its mostly singles ? |

| Ryan Turbidy's show was full of people texting in about the classic albums the chart had missed off, but I didn't hear one mention of it was all a massive self-fulfilling con. |

I knew it wasn't just me that could see through this self fullfilling prophecy of 'the best'.
For artists with a body of work such as the Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Floyd and such, fans would argue long and hard over whether the included album is even their best!!! I'm afraid I'm still shaking my head in complete bafflement every time I think of that top 3. And just a little further down, in what universe do Dido, Blunt and Minogue sit ahead of Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson and Paul Simon?????
OMG I think is the phrase?

It happened last year too with Military Wives, this year they were not even in the top 100.
The video game scores are pleasant enough but no way are they better than Beethoven, Elgar, Vaughan Williams, etc |

Maybe this reflects the new 'younger' listeners attracted to the 'old R1' R2 has become ? |
