I'm becoming tired of all this, surely I'm not the only one?

I think pretty soon you'll find yourself being cold-called by legal companies who will want to know:
a. whether there's any way you can claim to have been mis-sold PPI
b. whether you have had an accident recently that wasn't your fault
c. whether you have ever met a celebrity |

Jimmy Tarbuck was arrested 10 days ago on April 26th. There is a big debate still going on whether these people should be named? Mr Tarbuck has cancelled a gig which was supposed to be happening in June. He was only arrested and not been charged. |

Do you think we'll see Liza doing much cover work on Radio 2?
I suspect not because sadly mud sticks in these situations and there is often guilt by association - just ask any former member of the Glitter Band _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I meant to say I feel sorry for her and hope her show is safe. I don't listen that often but enjoy the music she plays when I do.

I can't see it affecting Liza, not professionally. Even the Beeb won't be that narrow minded. They'd better not, as I love her show, and now the football season is coming to an end, I'll be a listening most Saturday evenings.
Can't quite believe Tarby would be interested in a young boy, either. I hope I'm right, in this instance. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Me too Raver.
My first recollection of Tarby was as compere of the Gerry and the Pacemakers tour (64). The Fourmost were on it plus a couple of other Merseyside groups and Bill Haley and his Comets............... I was just 12 so my Mum came along (she loved the groups too!) and Jimmy was so funny.

Agreed... I would also hope that the BBC would show some good judgement. The bigger question may become whether Liza is comfortable to continue her show whilst this rumbles on in the background.
As in all of these 'celeb' sex abuse cases, there are associated families who must be going through a tough time through no fault of their own.
I am not a big fan of her show, but wish her well. |

Me too, Helen!
I have no doubt that a number of these allegations are probably true but there is so much leeway for unscrupulous people who had some kind of tenuous contact with a celeb in the 1960s/1970s to come forward with a complaint against them. It would be one person's word against another's, nothing would be proved and the elderly celeb's reputation, and his family's life, would be ruined for ever.
If I were a man who'd been a celeb at that time I would be feeling very twitchy, even if I knew that I'd never been involved in such activities. |

Me either,Raver..when I first heard his name in connection with this business my first thought was that he had probably been arrested in the groping catagory so was truly stunned to hear what he had actually been arrested for.

Yes,poor girl... I hope she feels she can carry on with her show as I'm sure the majority of her listeners would want her to...I wish her well. |

That was what I meant in my earlier post. I hope she can continue.

I don't understand why the accused can be named whereas the accuser can't be, even though he/she is now an adult. |

The argument that is usually made for naming the accused upon arrest is that many more victims come forward who might otherwise have remained quiet, and the prosecution case (if there is one) is made much stronger and justice better served. This has certainly been borne out by recent events, where convictions for historic offences have been secured in the absence of any physical evidence largely on the strength of the number of corroborating accusations by unrelated parties. All well and good when the accused turns out in retrospect to be actually guilty.
Unless we adopted some kind of Statute of Limitation, which would be problematic, I think the best compromise I have heard argued so far is the idea that anonymity should be lost at the point of the accused being charged, rather than arrested.
The other interesting idea was that there should be some sort of time-limit on the right to anonymity for the accuser. |
