Following recent dramatic and heavily reported events in Ohio, Jeremy conducted a telephone interview yesterday with someone in the UK who has a family member who lives in Ohio, although, it transpired, not anywhere near where these things happened.
The upshot of this conversation was that 'some parts of Ohio are not very nice'.
I consider myself enlightened.
Incisive journalism at its very best.

Absolutely - but that's from the BBC which is one of the better mouthpieces for the British media - no wonder the rest are languishing in the gutter Evil or Very Mad

Well, I had a 2 year contract working in Cleveland 1988-1990, and travelled extensively around Ohio and also to many other states to most of the cities who had auto plants. My employer was/is near the corner of Lorain Ave and West 143rd St, same district as all these events.
Although the events are in 100+ street that is still 'inner-city'. That district on west side of the city wasn't too bad back then, typical working class mainly white and hispanic folks (it's mainly black on the east side). The big cities in Ohio are very different from the vast 'country areas' of Ohio, and those cities Cleveland, Cincinatti, Columbus, Toledo, they are just the same as Baltimore, Pittsburg etc. very down to earth inner city areas, just like UK in a way; you would have seen on TV the rather 'rough' residents from around Lorain Ave and they are not much different from folks in east ends of London or Birmingham.
We lived on the outskirts in a nice big house in Berea, and have to say it was much quieter there, and we certainly preferred to visit the counties away from the city, especially the Amish counties who did great food, and my missus and the kids loved the craft shops. I liked the city's Lorain Ave for the second-hand stores where I bought old records for a dollar Very Happy

Jeremy might be surprised to find that some parts of London are not very nice either, cutting edge journalism.
