It's not hugely different from the normal schedule, which is good. It's only the opening batsman and a demon bowler that are off the pitch. I see Richard A, the 12th man, a resonable all rounder, is on the field.

I have realised that the only show on R2 that I listen to regularly during the week is Drivetime. I do sometime hear some of Steve Wright but only as a sort of default option. I also sometimes listen to Friday Night is Music Night and Desmond Carrington but that's all. Not much compared to the time I used to spend listening to R2.

A change is as good as a rest.

The daily schedules need a shake up-some new presenters etc would be good.

Ooh, you must have been quite annoyed lately with Bruce all over BBC Radio and the Radio Times and the announcement of his new 3-year contract!

But they're not doing it for the rest of the week.

Listened to Tarrant and Kielty yesterday and (with a few exceptions) it was the blandest, dullest, most predictable selection of music heard on the station for quite a while. If I'd been stuck in Bank Holiday traffic I'd either have crashed the car through falling asleep or attempting to end the monotony.

Couple of minutes into Drivetime with Kielty after the shows intro song he sounds OK. The only reason is ' because he's bouncing off the others in the studio.' He's cr** hosting a show on his own.

Tarrant is good covering for Wrighty like wise is Richard A.

I didn't hear Tarrant yesterday but looking at the playlist the music seemed OK. Predictable, yes (Alright Now, Freebird), but not so sure about bland and dull: Strange Kind Of Woman, brilliant.
And he did play Layla with the excellent piano bit, ie the album version rather than the single Cool

Tarrants music tends to be Rock, 70's, 80's and New Stuff. Almost the same sort of stuff he used to play on Capital Breakfast. He's allowed to have a very hand at picking his tune when covering for Wrighty.

Bat Out of Hell, Fat Bottomed Girls, It's Raining Again, Black Betty, I Love To Boogie, Brown-Eyed Girl, Born To Be Wild, Maggie May, Strange Kind Of Woman, Mr Brightside, Someone Like You, Free Bird, Honky Tonk Woman and bloody Layla twice! All the most overplayed songs in one handy 5-hour block. zzzzzzzz.

Why don't you just say you don't like Kielty and be done with it Mark?

Personally I can't see a problem with a bit of banter between the presenter and the travel, finance or sports people.

This is what I did like yesterday - especially as Lou Pepper is quite sparky.

Was she on today Ian? I only heard the last half hour and didn't catch her name. I enjoyed what I heard, and I like 'Part Time Pauline' as Simon calls her!

Helen, I agree, I like banter between presenters and their colleagues. It's a nice personal thing and draws you into the programme.
I like Ken's banter, though probably as a welcome distraction from his awful music.

I meant to mention Ken and Lynn, they make the show for me as well. Sally and Johnnie were the same when he did Drive. I think it's sadly lacking in a lot of the shows just now on R2.

The above is a lie. I have since found out that, from tomorrow, our ears are to be once again assaulted by the regular howler monkey between 6:30-9:30am tomorrow! Please don't get our hopes up like that Mark, unless you are 150% sure that the info is true. That is unfair, and possibly against our human rights!!!

No, it was Sally Boazman back today, so you probably heard the stand-in sports reporter... who's name I don't know. She's called Caroline but they never seem to mention her surname!

I don't see there is a problem with banter between others in the studio. All I'm pointing out Kielty isn't that good presenting on his own. Broadcasters have known to be much better with others around them.

Well I disagree Mark, Patrick Kielty was fine presenting when Graham Norton was away a couple of years ago ( or it may have been after Ross left ?).

Anyway name me a live show presenter (daytime shows on R2) who presents a show with no one else? I think you'll be hard pressed to find one.

Janice Long, Alex Lester, Richard Allinson, Ken Bruce ( Only Lynn Traffic every half hour ), Jo Whiley, Bob Harris - Most have guests, but not as much input as Steve Wright, Chris Evans and Simon Mayo do.

Janice Long always seems to have someone in with her! I can't listen anymore because she barely plays any records.
