Capital Radio has lined up the controversial former Kiss FM DJ Bam Bam for a return to the London airwaves.
Bam Bam - real name Peter Poulton - presented the breakfast show on Kiss FM for seven years until April last year. He left after a series of complaints about the show, which led to the dance station being fined a record £175,000.
Capital bosses are currently in negotiations with the DJ about fronting a high-profile show on the London station.
GCap-owned Capital has dropped to third place in the London market behind Heart, owned by Chrysalis, and Emap's Magic. Bam Bam's former employer, Emap's Kiss, is now challenging Capital for third place.
Kiss was fined £100,000 for eight breaches of standards on the Bam Bam breakfast show, and another £75,000 after Ofcom upheld a fairness and privacy complaint about a wind-up call on the show.
The fine, which was levied by the regulator two months after Bam Bam left the station, was the largest ever imposed on a UK radio company. The regulator said Emap had showed "abject failure" in being "unable to manage its talent".
Two of the complaints about the show concerned wind-up calls. Ofcom said Emap had "failed to seek consent from the participants who were identifiable".
One call was to a man that had just been made redundant and another was to a Chinese herbalist asking for a remedy to improve penis size. Ofcom said the broadcaster's treatment of the man who had been made redundant was "totally unacceptable".
Since leaving Kiss, Poulton launched a daily podcast on the internet with his former Kiss co-host, Streetboy.
His Kiss FM breakfast show finished with 683,000 listeners, in third place behind Capital's Johnny Vaughan and Heart's Jamie Theakston, and was the biggest breakfast show among 15 to 24-year-olds in the capital.
Capital has 1.46 million listeners a week, behind Magic, with 1.79 million, and first-placed Heart, with 1.85 million. Kiss is in fourth place with 1.44 million, according to the Rajar figures for the last quarter of 2006, published earlier this month.
Former Virgin Radio chief executive Fru Hazlitt was appointed managing director of GCap's London business, including Capital, last month. Two weeks later the contract of Capital's breakfast host, Johnny Vaughan, was extended for another three years.

He started off on one of my county's stations, Invicta FM.
Always struck me as loud and irritating, personally.
Mind you, I can see why he uses the pseudonym Bam-Bam... his real name makes him sound like a 54 year-old accountant _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |
