I think it's a crazy idea. The whole reason for double yellow lines is to make things easier for through traffic surely? If they want to make high street shops more accessible then they should lower the cost of parking in local car parks.

+1

There's enough abuse of yellow lines already, by taxis and unloading vans, without actively encouraging the private motorist to park, inevitably five feet from the kerb, or at a crooked angle, with his/her hazard lights flashing.

I'm all in favour of this proposal as long as it does not result in roads being blocked completely

Yellow lines are an irritating eyesore and are overused - we need to get rid of a great number of them and also a load of other items of street furniture which seem these days to be multiplying faster than rabbits

Let's get back to the days when common sense prevailed when a motorist could get a ticket for blocking a road or parking dangerously but not where his exhaust pipe happened to be overhanging a yellow line by a couple of inches

The problem is that parking fines have become a money generating business for councils these days instead of the original idea when they were supposed to be a penalty for really bad parking Mad
