On Jezza this lunchtime with that Paddy chap, was it him or someone else? No matter. Wine. There was quite possibly the most boring chap ever - Teetotal. Like me but not like me. He was advocating alcohol free wine for the masses, and how they (the Government) should do something about wine: you mean other than drink it? Yes that's exactly what he meant, he wants the Government to take all or at least most of the alcohol from wine and still call it wine, so that, and get this, when he goes a party , he doesn't feel like a comlete big girls blouse when he has to drink something non alcoholic that isnt wine. What a complete nobb. On top of that he had the most awful accent. If I had my own country and I was the Dictator (benevolent of course).. queue deep voice... that man on the radio.... yes the alcohol free wine man.... the Lions look a little hungry... feed them.
Blimey! What next.? I don't drink alcohol, it's oh so tough trying to find something to drink at a party, well, it is after all the water, lemonade , coke, dandelion and burdock, coconut and lime cactus coolers (my fav) orange juice, pineapple juice , tomato juice ( although I've never tried it) , banana milkshake, tea, coffee, grape juice , sparkling like me, or the flat kind, britvic 55, j20, pussy, red bull, NRG and a gazillion other soft drinks have all gone that is... |

Yeah, Ian you can already get alcohol free wine but he dressed up his not wanting to look a wussy by asking for alcohol free wine as corncern for the nation's health.
What the piece was really about but no one mentioned it, was peer presure and social stigma. The fact that there is a name for people whom don't drink alcohol is the problem. So what if you don't drink alcohol? There isn't a name for people whom don't eat Lettuce... some might call them Americans but I jest. Why is that? Well , it's because it's not dull or boring to not eat lettuce, the party isn't ruined by someone saying, lettuce? Oh not for me thanks I'm driving or I've got go get up early or some other equally dull reason. People whom go to parties want to get drunk. If I go to a party and I'm offered a glass of wine, I don't immediately offend the host by saying, alcohol! Are you trying go get me drunk, do you know what that will do to my liver? Cos the answer to both those is yes. No, I take it, say thanks, then give it to hubby or someone else, then I get a n other drink, if I want one, you don't need a glass in your hand to chat or dance, you just need 1. personality, 2. interesting experiences and 3. music. For a lot of people, drinking half a bottle of wine convinces them that they have 1 and 2, and 3 comes free at most parties.
So what should we call people whom don't eat lettuce? |

This is just another crackpot idea thought up by a bunch of liberal nanny state dogooders who just don't live in the real world and think they should have the right to interfere with our freedoms simply because they don't like certain types of lifestyles
As Rach says we have been able to buy low alcohol wine or alcohol free wine for a long time so if people want to drink that dreadful stuff they can - so what's the problem?
I liked the comment by the guy who mentioned that people who drink large quantities of normal strength wine are doing the country a favour as they are likely to die younger thus saving the Government money in pensions and healthcare
The plain fact is that wine is just not real if you remove the alcohol content because that particular item is a vital ingredient to give the wine its quality flavour and depth
If people want to cut down on alcohol they can always drink great quality beer anyway - right now I'm sipping a brew called Bullmastiff'Son of a Bitch 6% brewed in Cardiff - strong for beer but less than half the alcohol content of most decent wines - actually it makes me feel like I'm taking the healthy option _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
