It has just been announced that David Frost has died. A giant in the world of broadcasting. |

I am old enough to remember 'The Frost Report' in the sixties which was not only a groundbreaking programme for that time but also gave breaks to many heroes of comedy who later became household names
Very sad to hear about his death but quite fitting that it happened on a cruise liner which entirely fitted in with his outgoing and flamboyant lifestyle
He will be very sadly missed _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

We've only just lost Alan Whicker and now Frostie. The truly professional broadcasters are vanishing too quickly. From satire to the interviews with Nixon and Savundra he could take on any challenge.
I look up to him..... _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

I was surprised to hear the other day that the BBC (us licence fee payers) were co-funding the memorial service for Sir David that was held at Westminster Abbey the other day. |

I'm shocked...but not surprised, Becky. Flabbergasted is another word that springs to mind. There are a few others, too. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I have written to the BBC about this,Raver as I don't think it should pass unchallenged.
I have also written to Maria Miller the Culture Secretary to see if she has anything to say about it.
Looking at pictures of some who attended there wasn't one who was short of the odd million pounds (I wouldn't think) so why didn't they all chip in for it?
Another thing I would like to know is were the BBC asked to co-fund or did they offer.
I am not happy about this! |

I imagine the reason for the Beeb chipping in on the cost is because it then had broadcasting rights to parts of it. If it possessed exclusive coverage rights then the expenditure could be recouped by sales to other broadcasters (especially overseas networks via BBC World). It's possible that future programming will result from the eulogies that were given on the day - I'm sure they were entertaining. It also means that such material can be added to the BBC Digital Media library from which programme makers are charged over £600 per minute for rights access to clips for use in productions. I can't see that licence-payers will lose out from the expenditure. |
