Sorry to bang on about my train trip but this surely can't be a good use of funds. Train arrives in Bournemouth, large sign " Bournemouth" next to large sign saying "Bournemouth" an even larger sign saying "Welcome to Bournemouth, home of Bournemouth University". Where else would you expect to find Bournemouth University? Harrogate? Same deal at Southampton...how stupid do they think people are? Why not put up more signs? Southampton, home of Southampton Docks, home of Southampton Football Club, home of Southampton city centre car parks. Yes Southampton and Southampton based businesses and organisations is exactly what you might expect to find in Southampton! |

I have a similar problem with ITV programmes - "Agatha Christie's Poirot" as opposed to Arthur Conan Doyle's version or Simon Cowell's, I mean...rant over. _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

Station signage seems to vary greatly from place to place, and the number and size of them may be influenced by the need to promote something, commonly a second or third-tier tourist attraction or university, because the real deal is in a neighbouring town or city.
The equivalent of Bournemouth up here is possibly Leicester, where the traveller is assailed with not only many large station signs but also the Leicester Mercury building with an LED display which includes the time and temperature, and this message from the university...
Pulling into Nottingham you have to look very hard to spot any clue as to where you are, unless you're a connoisseur of castles. _________________ Ron

Happy Memories Ron - I was there and used to visit that building known as the Rattray Tower five days a week between 1973 and 1976 _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles?

Absolutely. Originally grey concrete 1960s Lego, called St George's Tower, offices for BT and Royal Mail.
They decamped early in the 2000s and it was bought in 2007 by one Amir Zabarfi, who decided to paint it blue, and rename it The Blue Tower. The bottom fifteen floors are a Premier Inn, but the rest is more or less empty, Mr Zabarfi got into financial difficulty and the freehold has been repossessed by Anglo Irish Bank, who might have repainted it green if they themselves could afford it.
Nottingham has many similar lumps of Lego. This one, recently repainted with a subtle shade of pink, is a fully occupied block of flats which would overlook the city's central station had that not been closed and demolished in 1967 to make way for the Victoria shopping centre.

Well, Warwick University is not in Warwick.
and neither is the Warwick Arts Centre
They are both in Coventry, OK, on the edge near Kenilworth.
But never see signs when entering Coventry saying it is the home of those fine establishments.
The city also has Coventry University, that's in the centre,

Rather like the Lancashire Cricket team which plays at Old Trafford in Greater Manchester Liverpool and Southport both in Merseyside and only occasionally at Blackpool being the only venue now in Lancashire
However they've probably got things right - to hell with these new silly so called 'Counties' - I was born in the great County of Lancashire and refuse to be told these days that I'm from Merseyside _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Grimsby Town play home games in Cleethorpes.
Berwick are in Scottish League and why do we allow teams from Wales in English League |

I think that's because it's not technically called the English Premier League but rather just simply the Premier League
I remember when lots of English teams like Chester Shrewsbury and Hereford used to compete in and often win the Welsh Cup although today only Welsh teams can take part _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
