After what seemed like an age away; last week (Wednesday) saw the return of the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with the man himself, woohoo, I was really looking forward to it but and this is no ordinary but, it’s a really big but- in fact, it’s a Clarkson B….UT… the show didn’t have the zip, the zing the zeal and the alacrity that I remembered. Perhaps Chris was tired or ill, I thought, so I just ran with it in a sort of, cut them some slack- fresh back from holiday and all that stuff, kind of way. (That’s the kind of girl I am). A weekend of rest though, has brought no improvement. Essentially nothing has changed, the show is the same show, with mostly the same people, at the same time, all doing the same stuff they always have- so what is up with it? Where has the sparkle gone? It just doesn’t feel like it used to feel. Have I changed? No, I’m still the same annoying happy-go-lucky idiot that I’ve always been. It sounds to me like Chris is just going through the motions, pressing the buttons at somewhere near the usual time: his mind, it seems, is somewhere else. Chris has forgotten why he’s there and so forgotten the listener ( that's me), it all feels back to front: rather than being on the receiving end of broadcasted entertainment, it feels more like I’m peering through metaphorical curtains into a social gathering I wasn’t invited to. So come on, get the polish out and get the show back to the shiny shenanigans it always was: in other words, shape up or ship out sweetheart, we don’t blow the budget to end up with second best.

Other shows that could do with a bit of spit and polish . Jezza Vine and Drivetime.

It’s not all bad though, some shows : Janice Long, Alex Lester, Vanessa, Jo Whiley just get better and better.

I don't think it's that, he seems distracted, perhaps too much on his plate, and an overly busy social/charitywork life. He needs to focus on his core product. The Breakfast Show.

Wasn't the fact that he went AWOL because he had too much on his plate back then? He was trying to balance the R1 Breakfast Show with TFI and wanted Fridays off.

Sorry to have to remind you all but if you look through my previous posts on the subject - I don't tend to post much about it now- I did say at least 18 months ago that history would repeat itself and that the whole thing would end in tears

Hard for me to judge as I don't listen but from the vibes I'm getting on this thread seems to me that the end might be nigh - or at least fairly nigh Smile

Sort of but back then he was single mindedly selfish to the point where he didn't care who he stepped on or skateboarded over to get what he wanted, now he has the opposite problem, he's too willing to say yes when what he really wants and what he should do, is to say no.

I don't think so, Rudds. A minor correction is all that is required.

Didn't he mix in with the wrong crowd back then? Danny Baker and Gazza drinking all hours of the night. I don't think he's a drinker anymore?

He has had a fair bit of time off too.

Better this morning.

Yesterday, during Steve Wright's intro, after track one, he mentioned 'being all over it' and most of all ' ready'...and then played that shine bright like a diamond song. Smile I smiled. Well, beamed actually. Very Happy

I wondered about that. Whenever I catch ten seconds of CE (waiting for Ken, obviously) I always wonder "Why are you shouting?"

I personally believe Wright gets paid by the word and Evans gets paid by volume

If you don't know what my last post is all about, listen to the first 5 or so minutes of this morning's breakfast show.. until the very end of all sit down by James. It was funny.

Anyway I'm going to be flying under the RADAR for a few days and early next week- so don't panic, I've not been taken away, bound and gagged, in the dead of night, in an unmarked BBC van. You won't hear my muffled screams as I roll around in the back of the studio trying to get out of a padlocked mailbag. No. I'm just doing something else for a few days. Smile
