Holding places called Drunk Tanks run by privately run companies could be used to hold people who are drunk on the streets. They will be taken to these places to sober up then in the morning they will be given a bill which could be upto £400 quid plus compensation.

So the drunken layabouts will be scooped up from the street taken to a holding centre then held there until sober amongst loads of other people? Will they be mixed or separated from females to males. I can see fights happening there too. So a private security firm will be involved, not making a profit either. I don't know if we can change our binge drinking culture. It will end up coming down to the police again.

It does seem more a political concern than resolving the real issue. What happens if your on benefits and can't pay the bill? I'm sure this will be more aimed at 19 years olds who go out and get sloshed at the weekend and £400 quid will hit them hard.

The biggest problem is likely to be the consequences which may arise for any police officer who makes an arrest and subsequently the prisoner suffers some kind of harm whilst in the care of those private companies

Almost certainly liability would rebound on the police so I doubt many officers would want to risk using this system - certainly not the intelligent ones anyway Smile

Time to ban drinking on the streets, enforce the drunk and disorderly charge and return to last orders at 11pm - including clubs?

The 24 Hour drinking never really lifed off. I don't know anyone who sits in the pub drinking at 3 in the morning. Do you?

But they do exist Mark. They sit dribbling and smoking until chucking-out time (much as they ever did) then go looking for a kebab/fight or whatever. Police officers are kept on duty until after the fights stop and are therefore unavailable to deal with other matters where civilised members of society need their help. Do away with 24 hour drinking now.
Was that a rant ?? YES

So let me ask you this, if you finish work at 3 in the afternoon and go directly into a bar whats the difference if you finish work at 3A.M and would like a drink.
As is usual in this country it's only the minority of wrong doers that get in the media.
