..... is one thing you're guaranteed in these forums. Where is everybody? This used to be such a busy virtual place!
A tumbleweed has just rolled down this virtual main street.

I don't belong to many Forums but look around now and then and it seems to me they are all dead as doornails!
maybe "The Forum" has had it's day? a hobby forum I signed up to hasn't had a post in over a year
For me, there isn't much to say about Radio 2 if I'm not going to complain about it and there isn't much point in repeating how great Sots or Potps is... or how MIND-NUMBINGLY BORING Dermott O'Leary is..
Bring back Scott I say... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Interestingly, my son uses car enthusiast forums (fora?) to get info on the classic cars he works on in his spare time and they're really busy, but forums that I used to run on the subject of digital video slumped as soon as smartphones grabbed the camcorder market. From 150-200 posts a day ours slumped to perhaps 10 a day by the time I decided to close it four years ago. You might be right for most areas of interest.

I agree. The only question that arises for me where Dermot O'Dreary is concerned is "Why?". His mutterings and drivel on Saturday afternoons are really annoying. I'd like to see Johnnie Walker back in the slot.

Yes, I miss Scott's disruptive banter as well. I have to be careful in saying that, though, because he was surely hell to moderate! |

Most of the forums I visit are quiet now. Facebook has taken the traffic away.
Several music-based Facebook 'groups' I'm in are very popular, postings there can easily link to what they have put up on youtube etc., via image links, and threads are much easier to read. _________________ -

Eek, you two . Actually, he may have changed. I ventured briefly into another forum where I know he posts and he admitted that he said some terrible things about David Jacobs of which he is ashamed. And he added an RIP for DJ. |

Well we all get older and wiser so I'm not surprised he may regret some of his more course remarks.
Of course, "words will never hurt me" and all that?
Apart from that, I mostly found Scott's comments pretty funny.. laughing out loud on some occasions
I don't mind a bit of provocation thrown in too. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

At about the time that he was causing his greatest havoc here (and causing John nightmares, no doubt) I was in private contact with him and he did tell me that at times on the R2MB he would be running about 8 logins simultaneously - with each of his personas arguing with each other! I thought that was so funny, actually.
Scott was certainly immensely disruptive, but he's an intelligent guy who was/is capable of presenting a reasoned argument when required. I do kind of miss the banter with him as well (just don't quote me on that) and he certainly did make me laugh out loud on many an occasion too.
PS: John - you're not supposed to be reading this! |

There are far more intelligent and interesting people we need back on here rather than Mr N
The man to my mind is simply a self obsessed egotistical troublemaker - and funny - I don't think so - just plain irritating

Personally I'd rather have peace & quiet above annoying and unfunny attention seeking. |

I remember his numerous logins on the original R2MB, most of us knew who they really were from and used to have a good laugh about it all.
Facebook certainly is to blame for the lack of posts on forums. That said I don't like it.

I've used Facebook in support of my business activity and it has helped to generate leads for me (some quite good ones) but otherwise I've backed away from Facebook now - as have a lot of my FB "friends". Certainly my contact list there is much, much less active these days. What bugs me about FB is the constant posts from people who seem to think that the world wants to know what they had for breakfast.
One friend suggested that he was soon about to take out his 35mm stills camera, take a picture of every restaurant meal he ate, send the roll of film to Boots for processing and printing, then have duplicates made and post to them to all his friends.
Somebody asked: "But what's the point of doing that?" to which he replied: "Exactly".
I reckon that sums it up nicely!
Personally, I prefer Twitter. I don't post much - unless I'm tried to draw attention to a new web page I've added to my site - but I do get a lot of good info from the feeds to which I subscribe. That's where I get a lot of my technology updates from.
I should add that I hate the phrase that is now commonly used by radio presenters and even David Dimbleby on Question Time: "Tweet me" or "You can Tweet us with your comments...."
No thanks. |

I find the trouble with a lot of forums is that they seem to be a kind of gang and you feel like you are intruding if you join in.
I'm not saying that is the case but just the feeling I have, which may be totally wrong. |
