I am rather bemused by this whole matter. Why was using the word Pleb considered more offensive than using the F word and losing his rag? I would have thought that his behaviour was sufficient to have brought about his resignation. Personally I would rather be called a pleb than have the F word directed at me.

My instant reaction is that I disagree Essex... the F word is used so much in my circles it's pretty acceptable amongst builder types and most other male types too I'd suggest.
But if somebody called me a Pleb, I'd react quite badly as that insinuates I'm sub standard in some way to them? Confused

I agree. The word "pleb" implies that the user is being condescending and downright snobbish. In contrast, the word "prat" (for example) wouldn't be as insulting.

I don't really think which word is more offensive is of any great consequence

What we ought to be concerned about is the behaviour of certain police officers in this case and I say that as a person who is not a great fan of Mr Mitchell

If they can lie to get rid of a senior Cabinet Minister then what chance do the rest of us stand?

Just look how long it took for the truth about Hillsborough to come out

Sadly we live in a corrupt society and corruption certainly does not stop with the police Sad

It was wonderful to hear former Cabinet Minister David Davis arguing this precise point on the JV Show today

It just proves to me that what is wrong with the Conservative Party is that they have the wrong people in positions of power

I reckon if David Davis seriously came back on the scene then UKIP would struggle to compete but as long as the present Government remains in power turning a blind eye to such deficiencies in the Police Service then they will continue to thrive - and quite rightly so Smile

Agree with you both about police and also about David Davis. I think things would be a lot different had be been won the last leadership contest.

The point is Helen that he DID win it on the first ballot - but the Conservative Party chose to adopt a system of PR voting for leadership elections despite the fact that they oppose exactly the same system for General Elections

Now surely you can't seek to rely on a PR system when it suits the party establishment but not when it suits the people in a General Election - I have to say I'm completely against any PR system as it tends to give minorities a disproportionate amount of power but all the same there's something very rotten here

That is one of the reasons why I mentioned on another thread that we live in a corrupt country Sad
