By popular demand. The Chris Evans Debate.

But before we discuss, first a few questions you may like to consider.

1. Is Chris Evans still doing the Breakfast Show? Yes/No.

2. Did the ratings for the Breakfast Show increase when CE took over from STW? Yes/No.

3. Have the ratings for R2 increased since the arrival of CE? Yes/No.

4. Is the CE Breakfast Show the most listened to in Europe? Yes/No.

5 When it comes to mass listenership for a station funded by the masses, is it more important that a few opinionated dinosuars get to listen to an outdated specialist show at a time when what the masses want is Chris Evans? Yes/No.

6. Does/(is)Chris Evans have ginger hair, talk loudly, mostly about nonesense, is a little soggy around the mid-section, never really shaves properly, does really sytrange things with his shoe/trouser interface, is paranoid about his health but abuses his body with food and alcohol, plays a lot of golf, has a nice set of wheels, does loads for charity and is generally an all round good egg loved by the masses? Yes/No.

As Mrs Merton used to say: "That's the end of the debate for this week, then".

That may be your contribution, such as it is, but others have specifically asked for this debate. Unless you've been elected as spokespersons for all other members then the debate shall continue, you are of course free not to take part.

Excellent news! I'm honoured. Let "the debate" commence.

Has it commenced yet?

(By the way, who are "the others" who have specifically requested this debate, exactly?)

If you read the threads you contribute to, then you would know who the others are.

Because of the low numbers of posters and the random nature of their visiting the forum, the debate will take some time to get going, that is how this place works.

Who are these "opinionated dinosaurs" of whom you speak? Have they said that they want their preferred specialist shows on at breakfast time?

Anyone whom thinks the answer to question 5 is yes.

Still bemused. I await with curiosity a lively debate with all those who have asked for it by popular demand.

BTW the term "opinionated dinosaurs" is a very troll-like expression. Just saying.

It was a question, not an accusation. Your experience of trolls seems in excess of my own, I don't know any troll-like people and have no real experience of them but on some websites that I've read, the definition of a troll includes those people whom accuse others of being one. Whatever that means? The debate I'm sure will start soon enough, if you don't wish to be part of it, there are many other threads and topics on here for your delight and delectation. I find it odd that people whom don't want to talk about Chris Evans, post in a thread about Chris Evans. It seems you want to debate on whether or not we will have the debate.

I'm not talking about Chris Evans and his show. I never listen to it so am not qualified to do so. I'm simply curious about your suggestion that some people who like specialist shows would like to hear them at that time of the morning.

Anyway, I'll leave you to it. Let the debating begin.

Await no longer, Eileen, for here it is:

Oh, have I missed it already? Oh well.....

Oh good. That eliminates me from the list of suspects, then!

We will. So when will it start? Will Mrs. Merton be officiating? The point is that I've other things to be getting on with.

That's very funny. And to think I thought there was no humour here. Nothing ever happens here at the weekend. Much like Radio 2 really. I'm quite busy too, I have two boxes of VHSc tapes to transfer to DVD, it's going to take all weekend.

This to me is reminiscent of an early seventies Python sketch - rather like the one 'Is this the right room for an argument?

They do say that comedy recycles itself if one waits long enough Smile

I'm not sure if it's the right room, wrong argument or the right argument in the wrong room. It seems clear, so far anyway, that people want to post about not posting about Chris Evans in a thread about Chris Evans. Very Happy Perhaps we should put up a big billboard warning people to come in ready to argue about something other than the argument in question.

I'm sure Evans does get good audience figures, but a national public radio station is bound to get good figures at breakfast time. A monkey would succeed at this.
That said, I was rather critical of the prospect of Evans doing the breakfast show on the old Radio 2 message boards (well, we all were, hence their very abrupt closure) but now admit that he does a pretty good job. I wouldn't listen to anything else now. The music he plays is far better than the dreadful gay disco pop that KB plays (though Evans doesn't choose what he plays presumably, he's too ignorant). And I enjoy his banter with fellow presenters and guests.

By the way, did anyone see his performance on The One Show this evening? He picked up a samosa or something from the plate that an Indian lady offered to him, ate a chunk of it, and put the rest back on the plate! Disgusting behaviour from a disgusting, socially inept, uneducated specimen.

I make a point of avoiding The One Show on Fridays Schiz - in fact come to think of it I avoid the show every evening because of the risk the dreaded Evans might put in an unexpected appearance

As for his replacing chewed food on the plate what do you expect of someone who comes from Warrington? Laughing

Sorry folks of Warrington - I was only joking as I am informed that there isn't enough humour on here - and I know most of you find him just as embarrassing as the rest of us Smile

Well as long as she has a black cat and knows something about magic and the supernatural she could always wear a wig Smile

I agree with most of that, I like his radio show, I wouldn't listen to anything else by choice when the CE Breakfast Show is on. Like you I don't like his TV shows, although I'm basing that on historical shows, we've never watched the One Show. We're not really BBC 1 people.

Spamming this and other threads I've started doesn't do your credibility any favours at all. Although it's wearing a bit thin, you carry on if makes you feel better. Certainly, it makes me smile at times and why not, it's not my credibility that is spiralling downwards.

That's a very thoughtful and well-composed comment. Well done. I should add, however, that I'm not particularly bothered with credibility issues either way. All I'm doing above is asking a perfectly reasonable question. Perhaps the users have selected Option 7 above? Just a thought.

Thank you, I'm a very thoughtful person. I'm sure the "debate" will continue as the days progress, I'm pleased that you are so keen on being part of it that you keep asking when it will get going. As my grandparents used to say, everything comes to he or she who waits. Be patient.

Rolling Eyes ( Children In Need, Probably a good person, but once the door is closed probably don't give two hoots, I don't think he's loved by masses. Love is a big word. Maybe liked? )

The papers have only stayed away from him as he keeps a low profile. As I said 'about all his wealthy goods like a Pub and Cars etc. He has people working for him in a pub and only put money into it, doesn't mean he owns it outright. When he does the Carfests, it's all sponsor deals with car fans and letting him broadcast for free. Some people think he's rich, but when he owned Virgin ( Actually he didn't own it the bank and investors along with his own money did ) A lot of his money is probably tied up in investments etc. It could all come to an end one day and he's left with nothing. Luckily he's got a good accountant'.

I do think some get a little blinkered with Radio 2 and Chris Evans Breakfast? Believe me he's not the most listened to in some areas IE London. Evans was very lucky at the time of Lesley Douglas who was controller to let him back, cause if it was now - He could be knocking on Richard Parks door at Global.

Oh , I thinks this counts as a continuance of the debate, Colin. What does it feel like to be wrong? Sorry , Mark , I digress.

The UK is much bigger than just London. I don't really know about those other things you mention, Mark but suffice to say that all our lives are built on sand, some of us have that kind of sand that sticks together, some of us don't. Just the way the dice roll. Chris Evans is all of those things I said earlier, when I said loved, I meant in the true sense of the word not the romantic notion.
Chris Evans is argubly the best, currently alive, radio presenter on the planet. There has been better but they are no more.
