Did anyone see this little story on Digital Spy about One Direction on Radio 2

I think the BBC Trust should really clamp down on Radio 2 and remind them of their remit.
Recently their playlist has consisted of One Direction, Olly Murs, The Wanted, Boyzone, Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Jessie J, Matt Cardle etc etc etc.
I have nothing against these artists or their songs but when it becomes just one big mass of the same style of music it becomes incredibly tedious.
Jeremy Vine had Esther Rantzen on recently talking about old people being lonely and a lot of them only having their radio as company, well I really can't see that the stuff Radio 2 is playing at the moment having any appeal to them at all.
I'm 46 and love music from different eras (and I bet loads of other people do too) and I'm feeling alienated by the music policy so I can't imagine how older people must be feeling.

I totally agree. I have nothing against any of these singers and groups but they are what my grand-daughters listen to, which is the whole point isn't it? They are performers for teens and 20s in my opinion (apart from Boyzone - I'm really sure who they appeal to). I really would like a range of music and singers from all different decades.

Probably worse than the old Radio One nod - or at least the version from the nineties as we did't have the mediocre and boring X Factor then Smile

We need a Radio 2 1/2 - which covers the gap between the rather heavy classic music agenda of Radio 3 and the rapidly becoming far too "poppy" content of current Radio 2.

Light classical music, older popular music (pre rock and roll era) etc is being gradually squeezed out of Radio 2 as they attempt to pander to what they think the current generation of 35 to 55 year olds want to hear. Sadly, it means the over 55s are finding less and less to listen to.

I have found that as one gets older, one actually grows a bit tired of the stuff we listened to in our younger days. I am a child of the 60s (so I like 60s music) and a teenager of the 70s (so I like 70s music) but I've been listening to music from those eras for all my life and have grown a bit tired of it. I like hearing "new" stuff. Although in this context, "new" means "new to me" - so it could be music from ANY era.

I have found my musical tastes going further and further back in time the older I have got.
