A police helicopter has crashed into pub on the banks of the Clyde in central Glasgow. There is a current fire and rescue operation is establish how many fatalities there are.

Police have said there were eight fatalities.

Tragic accident, and a strange one, very rare for this type of helicopter to drop uncontrollably from the sky. It has two engines which normally should always allow some pilot control to make a safe landing. Not many reasons why it would fail catastrophically; instrument failure or run out of fuel are possibilities, but the latter would be most unlikely as the civilian pilot has training and focus on maintaining and piloting the copter, his mind would be on nothing else.

Tragic whatever the cause, well done to the emergency services for saving so many lives.

A sad happening but very lucky that far more people weren't killed or injured

Many people walked out suffering from nothing more than cuts and bruises and shock - really a miracle given the circumstances

As one who has never cared one way or the other about the ordination of women as priests/vicars/bishops, I must say that the female moderator of the Church of Scotland who appeared on BBC news on Sunday morning spoke eloquently and compassionately on this tragic event. Her church should be proud of her - I was most impressed.

The fuel is not very flammable, I heard someone say on TV today as they were lifting out the wreckage. To cut out suddenly suggests possibly a problem developed with the fuel supply.

Nine fatalities now.

The helicopter looked far more intact than I thought it would be after crashing... I always assume they are very flimsy affairs.
Perhaps it wasn't that high.
