Afternoon Drama from Radio 4

A lovely listen with a great favourite of mine (Tom Courtenay) playing Stan and Sally Carmen (from Shameless) playing his daughter,Zoe.

A tender and humorous drama about how a father and daughter explore the memories of the past in order to connect in the present.

Tom Courtenay needs no introduction. He first came to prominence in the sixties with iconic movies such as 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner', 'Billy Liar' and 'Dr Zhivago'. In the 1980s he was acclaimed for his performance in 'The Dresser' with Albert Finney. Recently he has been in the West End portraying the poet Philip Larkin in a one man show 'Pretending To Be Me'. He was knighted in 2001.Ian Kershaw has a wealth of experience in TV, Radio and Theatre. He is a graduate of the BBC Writers' Academy and has written for EastEnders, Holby City, Casualty and Shameless. Filming has just finished on his BBC TV drama 'Castles in the Sky' about Robert Watson-Watt, the father of radar, which stars Eddie Izzard.

'Lost and Found' was inspired by his wife Julie's relationship with her father John Hesmondhalgh, who sadly died earlier this year

It's just struck me that the Julie written about above is Hayley from Coronation Street.

Sounds good, Becky. The blurb about Tom Courtenay didn't mention that lovely film Quartet ... but I suppose it couldn't include everything.

I was just about to ask that question when I saw your addition. I guess it must be because Actor's Equity only permits one actor to use any given name.

I might be missing something here,Colin,Confused but Equity and actor's names?

Julie Hesmondhalgh is married to the writer (Ian Kershaw) of Lost and Found and plays the character Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street.

An actor won't be admitted to Equity membership (and also a profile page listing in "Spotlight", the actor's directory) if they have a name that's the same as that of an existing member.

That's why Harry H. Corbett (Steptoe's "son") had to insert an "H" in his Equity name so as to differentiate himself from Harry Corbett (father of Sooty and Sweep).

It's the same story with Coronation Street's Jack P. Shepherd, who had to insert the "P" because there was already a Jack Shepherd in Equity UK.

Yes, I know all that but I'm still at a loss as to what it has to do with this thread. Confused

The comment related to whether "Julie Hesmondhalgh" was one and the same actress as the one who plays Hayley in Corrie.

Funnily enough this very subject cropped up a few minutes ago on Mastermind! Apparently David Walliams had to change his name from Williams for this very reason.
