How often do you hear a rarely played song then you hear it again either the same day or in next day or so?
Happened on SOTS with Nancy Sinatra's 'Highway Song' on Saturday and now Steve Wright is playing it............ Can't remember when I last heard it but it's got to be years rather than months!

I was thinking the same thing about the track 'Words' by French Moroccan singer FR David - obviously not his real name
Rarely heard it played since its chart appearance back in 1983 but I've now heard it three times in the last seven days both on radio and once even in The Tivoli in Buckley which passes for Chester's local rock venue
Incidentally some great acts coming up there in 2014 including The Darkness, Uriah Heep and Saxon but I digress
It is a strange phenomenon - rather like the old thing with buses - you wait for two hours and then three of them arrive all at once

I was thinking exactly the same Helen! Ken played The Stones' Under My Thumb about a month ago (I posted here about how shocked I was by him playing a good song for once), and the next day it was on SW's oldies, and Graham Norton played it on the Saturday! |

It's more likely that the song was among those that had been dropped into the "suggestion" list on the playout server. That way, numpties like Gary Bones see it and think "Oh, shall we play that tomorrow?". Otherwise, he'd never be inspired to play a song he'd never heard of! |

Often songs like this turn up on the anniversary of their original release and I notice "Words" was originally a Euro hit in Nov-Dec 1982 and "Highway Song" was in the UK charts in December 1969.
So I guess there's a list of songs for certain months, and they go on the station's "oldie" playlist for that time each year. |

You're probably right there Ian as I've often thought when I've heard an oldie that it came our around that time Ian.
Steve Wright's was part of a '2 from' Nancy Sinatra, the second track was 'These Boots ........'

Has anyone noticed that the track 'Love Kills' by Freddie Mercury has now been played on five consecutive days - having probably never been played since the early nineties
A great track but why? _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Ken Bruce has just played it. My guess is that it has been re-released for some reason. If so, does anyone know why? _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

It's on this week's playlist as an 'A' so that's why it's being played so much. As to why the re-release I've no idea................???

That will be the reason no doubt but I'd not heard about it as I'm not a Queen fan.
