Listened to this programme tonight more in hope than expectation but was very pleasantly surprised

I had assumed from the trailer that it would be the story of the competition between Slade and Wizzard for the 1973 Christmas number one but far from thiat it turned out to be a wonderful history of the whole glam rock era - minus one notable artist from that era

If you're a fan of early 70's music you should definitely catch up with this on 'listen again' - one of the best shows I've heard on R2 in a long time Smile

Yes, I know the one you mean - the one who has now been erased from rock & pop history in the UK! It's same artist who played such a great pre-Christmas gig at Plymouth Polytechnic a year (or was it two?) before.

As I said earlier I wasn't expecting this programme to be anything other than a straight Slade/Wizzard clash but as the show extended to the total influence of Glam Rock music I don't really see how anyone can ignore one of the biggest artists of that particular genre without devaluing the end product Sad

Yes, I too know who you mean, but I don't think he had an actual Christmas record out. I think his hit at the time that programme was about was 'I Love You, Love Me Love'. I agree, it was a good show and I also enjoyed the Cliff Richard programme before it. An eclectic mix of tracks, old and more recent, including Joe Bonnemassa and Deep Purple.

Blast... I'd have liked to recorded this programme, it sounds really good and I loved Gary Glitter.. particularly "I Love You, Love Me Love".. superb track. To leave him out seems daft.. bit like leaving Hitler out of "The World at War".
I did hear the Cliff show and thoroughly enjoyed it. A great mix of tracks and old Cliff was very interesting and well, nice to listen to.

Glitter's Christmas hit 'Another Rock and Roll Christmas' was actually released in 1984 - many years after his successful seventies period - it was written by Glitter in partnership with Mike Leander and was included on the 1990 Number 2 Christmas track 'Let's Party' by Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers and that track was played in full on POTP last Saturday

I reckon the BBC censors must have been over indulging in the Christmas spirit Laughing

I recorded this but haven't had chance to hear it yet. I am looking forward to it now though as from your posts it sounds like it will be very good. Very Happy
