On show this week Chris said 'that he would have liked to have gone right up to Christmas rather than finish on Friday'. I wonder why the powers that be decided to end his show on Friday.

There is a god!!

Excellent news. Perhaps I'll reconsider my atheism after all!!! Smile

I was listening through the night and was surprised to hear Richard Allinson doing his weekend show. Thought he was covering Breakfast during the week. Didn't the station have a cover for him or is it just cut backs?

I doubt it is cutbacks onsidering the number of so called celebs that Mr Shennan is paying.

Apart from French & Saunders I don't really see the schedules cluttered with 'celebs' - who do you mean?

Len Goodman (although I think he is good and I've not heard his Christmas programme) and Claudia Winkleman could count. Also Rhod Gilbert, Dame Edna, and actor Russell Tovey are another 2 for you.

Sirs Cliff Richard & Elton John, Clare Balding, Bryan ferry, Barbara Windsor, Paul O'Grady, Curtis Tigers (what's wrong with the usual 'Big Band' presenter?) Certainly Miranda Hart (partnered by Jon Holmes) You might also count these Saturday regulars: Graham Norton. Liza Tarbuck, Anneka Rice.
It should be noted that my naming of the above does not necessarily mean that I did (or do - if they are a more permanent fixture in the R2 schedule) not enjoy their shows.

Of course, Clare Teal is the usual 'big band' presenter, then there's Don Black who took over David Jacobs' show. Michael Ball, And, how about Sir Terry Wogan!! Do these all have a celeb status?
Just had a look at tomorrow's schedule. Richard Madeley instead of 'the togmeister', Elaine Page in her usual Sunday spot, and of course Vanessa Feltz is back next week. At least I am spared the most annoying 'celeb' berk for another week. Do I really need to mention his name?
Thank you God!

I'd say not as they are all now established broadcasters and at least know something about music even if some are still fairly new to R2.

French and Saunders, well I'd struggle to say what they know about anything really.............

French & Saunders said it all in the promo, something like 'it's all rather easy this radio presenting isn't it?". I'm sure from their point of view it was. They should have tried listening to it.

I enjoyed Johnnie Walker's interview with Annie Lennox last night, both the chat and the music. The 'Step Inside with Cilla Black' programme was entirely another matter. I can't believe he enjoyed that. And whilst I've got a certain tolerance for some of her earlier ballads, the same can't be said for her reminiscences.

I was pleasantly surprised though by Elton John's show this afternoon. Some of the music was really good, and he came across quite well I thought.

Claudia has been a TV and radio presenter for around 20 years - at what point does she stop being a 'celeb'? Gilbert has presented on Radio Wales for about a decade. Tovey is just voicing a documentary, and is as good a choice as any.

I assume some of these are specials, but it's also worth noting that Miranda has been a regular on Radio 2 much, much longer than she's been on the telly. In fact, she wouldn't even have a hit sitcom if Radio 2 hadn't done it first. Curtis Stigers seems a reasonable choice - he's probably had fewer hit UK records than Jimmy Young or even Terry Wogan!

I don't really see any difference in the number of 'celebs' in day-to-day slots than ever before, although I don't think Anneka Rice is any good and could be replaced by a much better presenter.

That said, I don't quite understand the point of the Michael Sheen show on at the moment.

I am really enjoying Michael Sheen tonight. As a celeb he is doing better than most. I have learnt more about the New Romantics than I knew before despite living through the 80's. He claims this is the first time he has done interviews but he did okay with Gary Numan & Midge Ure- may I say better than some established R2 presenters. Beats endless repeats of JW. Mr Shennan should have signed him up rather than Sara Cox- he does seem to have a real interest in the music of the 80's.
