I loved this book when I read it just after it was published ( a friend said it was a must read and insisted I read it saying I would love it and even brought me a copy round to make sure I did ! Very Happy

) so was delighted to see there was to be an adaptation of it on Radio 4 Extra starting at 11 today...repeated at 9 tonight.

The author,Donna Tartt, was on Bookclub (Radio 4 ) yesterday discussing the book with fans of the book.

I remember the hype when it came out, so bought the audiobook... and, sadly, I thought it was awful. Tartt has tried writing from a man's point-of-view but (speaking for my half of the species) we don't think like that. I just spent the whole book thinking the lead character was talking a load of rubbish.

But I'm probably in the minority! Perhaps I should give it another go.

As I said I loved The Secret History (different tastes Very Happy

) and as Ms Tartt only brings out a book once every 10 years there was a long wait for her next book,The Little Friend. When it came out I couldn't wait to read it and to say I was disappointed by it was is a huge understatement.. Evil or Very Mad

.Her third book The Goldfinch,which came out last year,is okay but as far as I'm concerned I don't think she'll ever better The Secret History.

By the way was that you up against Warwick Davis the other week,Ian, on Phil's 5?

I didn't hear it from the beginning .....I meant to ask you at the time but forgot.
