.....it must be to go sailing through the air, doing the odd somersault on the way, as the youngsters did in the inaugural Winter Olympic snowboard slopestyle final in Sochi this morning as the Winter Olympics got underway.
I am usually quite happy to watch various sports from the safety of my armchair but watching this event made me want to get up and have a go myself ... ..it must be the most exhilarating experience!
Our lads(Jamie Nicholls and Billy Morgan ) failed to get on to the podium but they sounded, in the interview afterwards, to have enjoyed themselves enormously, hoping for better results in the future. |

Well done that woman!
There was a very happy Mum being interviewed early on this morning before the competition started..needless to say she was ecstatic later after her daughter won the Bronze medal!
Enjoyed some of the ice skating that was on this afternoon...there was a terrific 15 year old Russian girl who I'm sure we'll see much more of. |

Easy for you to say,Raver.
I was a bit confused to start off with the team event skating ....I had missed the beginning when no doubt it was explained about how it was a new event where countries, rather than individuals, contested for medals
I've looked at the for timetable the skating and see we'll see young Yulia again on Sunday. |

Oh those Russians!
An absolutely mesmerising performance from Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov on the ice in Sochi
I can't find the actual performance of this that was in the Olympics but it's the same routine and is just as breathtaking.
I have watched it a few times now and if anything it improves with each watch!
Wonderful music!

A tremendous run of skeletons from Lizzy Yarnold to earn her a Gold Medal ...a fine reward for years of hard work! |

I haven't seen or heard anything of Yulia, since we last met. Did I miss her, Becky? I have to admit, I've been hooked up with the Curling, though I missed today's play-off.
I would dearly love to see Elise Christie win a medal, preferably gold, after all the bad luck she's had in this Olympics. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I have lost track of the games a little during the last few days,Raver, due to having a (little) visitor ( )but I'm happy to say I got it wrong saying she was on again on Sunday ..the short programme was yesterday where the young Yulia came a cropper (literally) poor thing. It was still a lovely programme but the fall put her back into 5th going into the free programme this afternoon ....but you probably know all that already.
A great bronze for the British women in the curling after the heartbreak of the semis....that last stone!!!
Felt sorry for the Swiss women though, who looked totally crushed...coming fourth must be heartbreaking.
Trivia fact ...George Clooney is a big fan of curling! |

Yes, I thought you had got your times a bit skewiff, Becky. I did catch Yulia. I had a sense of disbelief when she fell. Didn't see her yesterday, but she fell again, apparently. Mind you, the two girls who were first and second, were something to behold.
Great comeback by the gals yesterday, in the Curling. I did feel momentarily, for the Swiss, but our girls would have been devastated beyondrepair, if they'd have lost again, as I felt Eve made some serious errors of judgement the day before. But...all's well that ends well, as somebody once wrote.
"Tis a far far better thing,
To send the Swiss a whirling
Than to see oor bonny lasses
Withoot medals in the curling"
Almost forgot, Becky. I didn't know that George was a curling fan. So is Springsteen, apparently. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Is that one of yours,Raver?
It just didn't happen for our lads today in the curling but a Silver medal is a tremendous achievement and when that fact sinks in I'm sure they'll be very happy.
Inspired by the games over in Sochi here's a short video of a couple of the Southampton football players doing some 'human curling'

My niece and her husband,in Australia, went to see Bruce Springsteen the other night.
Fingers crossed now for John Eley and Elise Christie! |

Course it's one of mine! Took about ten seconds to compose and thirty to type.
I've been looking forward to seeing Elise for days. She's lighting...hope I don't jinx her, but I think a medal is in order. Then maybe a poetic tribute...
As soon as it went to 5-1 in the curling, I had to leave the room, as it wasn't pleasant to watch. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

To my inexperienced eye it looked,as the commentators said, that she was in front of the woman who brought her down making her eligible for the final.
Wilf O'Reilly is now saying he thinks it was something that happened earlier in the race that was the problem.
Victor An, the Russian, was just breath taking winning his final later on. |

Hmmm...well, I know what he's referring to, but iI think it's very harsh if it is. Just hope the Welsh can rediscover some form and beat the French at Rugby. Looking good so far. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

They did just that,Raver!
A great result and performance by them.
Big game tomorrow at Twickenham with Brian O'Driscoll playing his last international game there. |

Yes, great result for Wales, especially after their defeat to Ireland.
And it throws open the competition to make it more exciting. |

What a thriller yesterday's match at Twickenham was with England fighting back to make it a memorable one.
My interest in this competition usually wanes a little when the chance of our (England) winning the Grand Slam disappears but with the results as they are up to now the Grand Slam has gone for all the teams whereas the Triple Crown is still up for grabs... the match between England and Wales on the 9th of March should be a cracker!
Back to the Olympics ...aren't the sleighs/sleds they use in the bobsleigh magnificent looking machines! |
