I really enjoyed this series and was delighted to see Trinity win the trophy last night.
I was very impressed by the Slovakian chap on the Cambridge team, also the captain Morley was a very bright lad.

Yes it's been a good series,Toggy.....nice to hear Jeremy praise both teams at the end. Very Happy

I like the trophy.. a very nice looking object. Is there a new one every year,I wonder?

Another favourite quiz of mine, Fifteen-To-One, is back on Channel 4 with Sandi Toksvig taking the role that William G Stewart used to be so good at.

I always preferred it to Countdown.

I think it's been a great series this year and I'm glad Trinity won although I was hoping SOAS would have got through their semi final.

I think my next door neighbour was on 15 To 1 years ago but I can't remember how he got on and I never saw it on TV!

I went through the entire series, thinking he was Polish! The semi-final was best, I thought, when they were behind to Manchester, and looked as if they were going to get beaten, until they went turbo charged in the last ten minutes. Astounding.

I'm looking forward to the final tonight. I'm sure there will be more viewers than normal with all the hoo-ha surrounding Mr Monkman. Very Happy

I don't think for one minute he will let it affect him...

Me too Becky. I'm hoping the other team wins but I won't hold my breath. It will be a miss until the next season begins.

I always back Oxford against Cambridge, stemming from my schooldays when we had a netball match at the time of the Boat Race and I was always in the Oxford team (I think I liked dark blue more than light blue). It was a good final tonight. There was one question which I was able to answer when none of the students could. Unfortunately I now can't remember what it was Embarassed Very Happy.

I can never remember which is which,Eileen.. Confused

A decent final and Mr Monkman looked genuinely happy for the other team.

Good sportsmanship.

Jeremy seemed happy when Mr Monkman got a question wrong...surely not. Smile

I was pleased with the outcome Becky and I think Jeremy enjoyed it too!

I always mixed the colours up as well, until last summer at the son of a close friend's wedding, the wedding party ties and table accessories were in Cambridge blue as the bride and groom met there.

Mid to pale blue with a touch of turquoise thrown in. Well that was the colour of the ties!

That was a funny moment and I think Jeremy said something like "That was an absolutely useless answer"! I was reading about Eric Monkman and he seems genuinely bemused by all the attention being heaped on him. Some chap met him in the street and asked for a selfie with him as "my girlfriend loves you" Laughing. His parents and older sister are all doctors. Sis said fondly of him that he is a little eccentric Very Happy.

Mr Monkman was on last year as well, wasn't he? There's a touch of Roy Cropper about him. Anyway, that's not why I've posted.

I got two answers that none of the finalists got. The second one was "dog" but unless I watch it again, I can't remember the first. That said, half of the questions might as well be in Esperanto.

Also, regarding Mr M, I found myself wondering how costly his two inaccurate "buzzing early" answers were. Could have made all the difference.

His eagerness to buzz in early was a little uncharacteristic...perhaps he was a little nervous. He made some rather strange movements with his arms at one point...wonder what that was all about.

I have just watched it again and I think he was trying to delay a too-eager answer to a tricky maths question, adding up the numbers of four elements.

The answer I knew which they didn't was Jacques Tati Smile …possibly a little lightweight for their superior brains? Their answer was Jean Luc Godard.
NB Tati was a comedic genius IMO Very Happy

I'm enjoying,as usual, the Christmas editions of University Challenge with the (slightly Wink ) older contestants but was astonished that none of Ekow Eshun's team knew that Boadicea was the Queen of the Iceni tribe.. I thought that was common knowledge..obviously not. Confused

I've really enjoyed this Christmas series.

I've not watched many Only Connect episodes, maybe I should give it a try.

An evenly matched contest until the last few questions. Quite pleased with myself I knew the Edna Ferber question, which none of the people asked knew.

Only Connect together with University Challenge is my regular Monday night viewing.

A while ago,for some unknown reason, they moved Only Connect to Friday nights...obviously proved an unpopular move as it was soon returned to it's Monday slot.

It's that time of year again 8.30pm BBC2 and Jeremy Paxman!

Makes you feel as if summer is over but I'm looking forward to watching.

Just checked and it's Nadya's cookery programme at 8pm. Maybe when that has finished they will start Only Connect again.

Seems earlier than usual, but looking back in this thread it isn't!

I would have said it usually would have started after or around the August Bank Holiday but it must have moved forward gradually!

I did wonder if there would be a series what with lockdown, but they must record them even more in advance than I imagined.

Very Happy

On the odd occasion,Foggy, I've got a question right when the contestants haven't. (And it is an odd occasion) Very Happy

Assuming the other team can't see The Wall I've often wondered why they don't have the same wall for both.

I sometimes think it would be fairer for the teams if they used the same wall but it wouldn't be much fun watching the same wall done twice Smile
