What's with all the Britpop hype, it's bit OOT .

Wasn't it only Oasis vs Blur ? Rolling Eyes

To me Blur only did one good song 'Parklife' and then it went downhill from there Rolling Eyes

To be fair, I listened to Lamacq and Whiley on Monday and was transported back in time to be reminded that, actually, there was a lot of good music out then that just suddenly exploded.

Lamacq did an excellent job of putting it all in context of pop history, and explaining why it matters.

I didn't get into it at the time Nod, but don't mind some of the stuff now when I hear it. Liked 'Parklife' at the time.

It does seem a bit OTT but the Beeb seem to do that with everything these days, nothing in moderation........

Enjoyed hearing The Longpigs on there tonight

Jo was talking about Shed Seven and it reminded me that me and my elder son saw them at the free St Helens annual music festival a couple of years ago together with The Levellers and The Bluetones

All were excellent - the gig was much better than many I've paid through the nose to attend - like when I saw Pulp at the Manchester Arena in 1995 Smile

I't'll be a rare thing for me to find myself in agreement with The Mail On Sunday. My father used to read this paper, and, I think it must be about 10-15 years ago Shocked that most of the Sunday papers were giving away compilation CDs. Now here's the ironical thing, though I disagree with The Mail On Sunday 99% of the time, the CDs that they were giving away at the time had, for me, the better tracks on them. One such CD was entitled Sunday Girl, track No 3 was 'She Said' by Longpigs.

At first, I preferred Oasis over Blur, as the first two albums were very good. They also got a lot of kids to pick up guitars and make music, as opposed to all the dreaded boy bands that were so prevalent.

But each successive album was worse (and the same old) than the one before, starting with the ridiculously overblown Be Here Now, whereas Blur just got better and better with every album. I do believe Damon Albarn is a bit of a musical genius.

Sorry raver but I think Blur were and still are totally overrated - I was never involved in the famous Oasis/Blur debate - but for me Oasis win hands down every time

Nothing at all to do with the fact I had a football kick about with Noel Gallagher in the days when he was still a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets who were recording in the Windings recording studios in Wrexham at the time - 1991 I think Smile

No need to apologise Rudders...it's all about opinions.

I will say this, though. Oasis were the best Rutles tribute band I've ever seen. Wink

Suede and Oasis were the best bands to come out of Britpop amongst other good bands like shed seven and pulp.
I have to admit not a fan of blur

Neither am I - I do agree that Shed Seven were and still are absolutely superb

I saw them at St Helens Open Air Music Festival a couple of years ago - it's a free event every year with usually well known artists - and Rick Witter was still the superb singer and showman I remember seeing back in 1995 when I took my former stepdaughter to her first ever gig Very Happy

That gives rise to quite an interesting question - if you have a stepdaughter through marriage and a divorce happens is that person a current or former stepdaughter - in other words do you divorce her by association - I don't know - but after all she had no say in what happened between her mother and me Confused

Any thoughts folks Smile

I heard Suede saying in an interview they weren't Britpop, so that leave Oasis.

(Definite Maybe back in the charts at No 5)
