We see a lot of posts from lots of us moaning about who should have shouldn't be covering shows on Radio 2.: The only reason I think is that know one else is asked to cover. Or they just don't want too? The station does tend to want to use the same person in each slot to cover for as long as possible then change them around. We could see Richard Allinson covering every show, but he's got his own weekend shows and possible doesn't want too. Zoe Ball can't cover every breakfast show, so we can possible hear Richard Allinson or Patrick Keitly ( Hope no more ) - but it also tends to be Richard who gets the phone call if someone goes sick.

I think the station should drag out Alex Lester and Janice Long to cover, but quite possibly they don't want too.

Chris Tarrant was covering Wrighty afternoon show, but it seems he's been given the shove in favour of Keitly, but Tarrant did fall ill recently.

I just don't know what the answer is with regards to cover presenters as some are not suited to the slot or Radio 2 or just not liked.

I'd rather have Patrick Kielty any day than Chris Tarrant.

So would I.
Tarrant always seems to have had too many subsidised alcoholic drinks at the BBC bar before he lumbers into the studio ready to insult listeners' musical choices, shout at the listeners, and play non stop ACDC.

Having said that, I prefer Steve Wright to Kielty.

You mean like they used to? Like when Alex Lester would cover for Ken Bruce or Drivetime? Or, maybe, Janice Long when she covered the Saturday early show (Mo Dutta's show in those days) or the (sadly now defunct) Album Chart Show which simon Mayo presented. I know the schedule may have changed from those days (sometimes not for the better) but there's no reason I can think of why these R2 greats can't be heard by a wider audience covering some of today's shows.

Chris Tarrant is of course ill at present so I guess he won't be making a return to R2 anytime soon

I like him covering the afternoon show because at least he seems to play his own choice of mainly rock music instead of the usual drivel which seems to constitute the R2 playlist these days Sad
