Would somebody tell Richard Madeley that the introduction to Dina Washington's Mad about the boy is a Trombone NOT a trumpet.

Folowing this show,Elaine Page then commented what a brilliant show Terry Wogan had just done.
Come on Radio2 get a grip and put some proper radio presenters on!

Not the presenter's fault as Elaine's show is obviously recorded sometime in advance, but the producer should have edited it out.

It's the producer's fault - such a silly link in a pre-record should not have been included in the script in the first place!

This is what I don't like about pre-records - at least those that are attempting to pass themselves off as live. Mr Blackburn is always scrupulous about informing the listener when the show is recorded, which is the professional thing to do, and is completely acceptable.

I would disagree about this not being Elaine's fault.....Nobody is forcing her to falsify comments about the preceding show in an attempt to mislead the audience. On this occasion she makes herself look silly. She would do better to be honest with the listeners.

I don't think her programme is ever live and to be honest it doesn't matter if it is or isn't, not just to me but I assume the vast majority of those who listen (I do from time to time but not always). We don't know if Richard Madeley was a last minute stand-in and maybe Elaine's show was recorded 2 or 3 weeks ago?

All that needed doing was to edit out her comment about Mr Wogan, something I could have easily done on a Mini Disc but I doubt it's recorded on one of those in this digital age! They should have had someone who is capable of editing but in all the cost cutting I guess there wasn't. The old ways were sometimes the simplest and more easy to correct!

Why don't you write to R4's Feedback, it's the kind of thing they seem to like!

Yep, it's all hard-disk tapeless editing these days, Helen. Depending on how "clean" the segment was, it's a 5-second job. I would imagine that her show is recorded during the week (as are many weekend shows) but either way it's just sloppy. Do remember the time the show's segments were all played out in the wrong order? That was one of the very few occasions I heard her show and I was at first very puzzled until I realised what at happened. Unacceptable!

The best plan is simply to avoid R2 on Sundays altogether apart from - if you're in the mood - perhaps a dip into the very predictable 70's stuff played by Johnnie Walker Smile

With the exception of Johnnie, I've avoided R2 on Sundays for years. Thank heavens for Caroline!

Flagging up time-sensitive comments in prerecorded shows and then going through an edit before broadcasting would be a nightmare..... I don't think anyone at any station would contemplate that, and i don't blame them.

To be honest, I don't have a big problem with pre-records. I do have a problem when there are half-baked attempts to pretend to the listener that the show is live, and the whole thing comes unravelled, as in this instance.

Yes, I agree. That's why I think it's the job of the producer to see that such embarrassments don't occur by not including such silly lines in the script in the first place.

It a strange way of having Wogan then Madeley filling the gap for 2 weeks before he returns. Must be a hard life he needs a holiday after 6 week or so stint.

I'm amazed no-one has mentioned Jennie Seagrove's foray into singing live on this programme. I won't forget that in a hurry...sadly. Sad
