This must surely prove the point that 11 very highly paid players on a bit of grass can't be trusted to kick a ball around properly and get it past the bloke stood in front of a net at the other end enough times to win a game.

'It's not always the managers fault, as he doesn't kick the ball around on match day. His players are experienced enough, then should have got on with winning for the club that pays them huge wages. You can't just take the foot off the gas because there are management issues.'

Ferguson is to Moyes what Blair was to Brown - ie the b--stard who bailed out when the s--t was about to hit the fan

In some ways I feel sorry for Moyes but there again he was a greedy idiot for taking the job as anyone with even half a brain would have known that the only way for Man United is down irrespective of whoever took over so Moyes should have stayed at Everton and by now he would have had a great chance of getting the Tottenham job which is likely to be up for grabs this summer

As it is I think his credibility is now so shot to pieces in all probability he'll have to take a step backwards and manage a club even smaller than Everton - and of course we all know now why the club waited until today to sack him - because mathematically they can no longer qualify for next season's Champions League and because of that they have to pay him only one year's compensation on his contract rather than five

As for Man United history will repeat itself - they'll have a series of short term managers who will all be sacked and ultimately they'll be relegated in a few years time Smile

Then the glazers have money - The wide world brand with its advertising will fade away and investment won't be there if they don't do well in the premiership. They can't afford to not get the next manager wrong. Also some players have had it at ManU and all the speculation about Rooney will emerge again, ' saying he's not happy at the club'. Bottom line the players not all have let the club down.

For me, this whole saga is a problem of modern life's desire for instant gratification. Yes, Moyes made mistakes but rather than letting him do his own thing and build a team (his record for his 31 matches is better than Ferguson's was) the owners and the feckless fans just couldn't wait. Football just goes on and on and true fans are stuck with their team no matter what... so would another year have hurt?

Yes, I agree with you Ian. The big problem lies in the fact that Man United is a massive "brand" rather than a mere football team, and the pressures upon a manager now come from every possible direction. Moyes' record in his first season with the club was better than Fergie's, as you say, but sadly times have changed hugely.

Whoever takes on the job has to be made of steel.

Man Utd fans are indeed particularly shallow and in need of instant gratification. I believe Fergie failed to win anything in his first four years there.

Times have changed since 20 years ago its more about Stocks and Shares. Foreign investment needs trophies even if they don't know anything about the game and players. Moyes wasn't a selling and buying machine cause his face didn't fit.

Rebuilding any team is really a five year project - it has taken around that long to get Liverpool to the position they are today - but the problem with Man United is the fact that they have American owners who are bleeding the club dry and taking out large sums of cash to fund their other business interests abroad and lots of foreign shareholders most of whom probably have totally unrealistic expectations of what any individual manager can do in a single season

I agree that Moyes should have been given more time - at least as much as Ferguson was allowed back in the late eighties but the problem is that football has changed since then - and in my view for the worse - which is why despite having been a Liverpool fan all my life - I prefer to watch decent games in the lower divisions where money generally does not buy results or success

At least if Liverpool do win the title this season they will have achieved it without spending vast sums of money - as I recall even Suarez cost only 19 million pounds - I reckon he must be worth more than 100 million today based on what was paid for Gareth Bale - but it's simply not good for true fans of football Sad
