I think it was obvious Brazil were going to lose, but it's amazing by how much they lost. I didn't bother watching initially as I thought it was going to be another tight one that only livened up towards the end - oops!

Brazil were disappointing throughout the tournament so a German win was no surprise, though the score was.

Germany scored more goals in six minutes than Ingurland did in their three games. Sad

Apparently many Brazilians are blaming Mick Jagger for the defeat - he previously backed England Italy and Brazil on a previous occasion as well as yesterday and they all lost Embarassed

Perhaps it's a plan to get his former record company to re release his classic track 'It's All Over Now' Smile

I'd blame Mick Jagger for everything, anyway. Saves time.

Ah well. Never thought I'd find myself supporting Germany.

It's going to be tricky on Sunday. Do we support the old enemy or the more recent (and current) enemy? It seems that Germany were getting a little embarrassed about all their goals and began to kill time towards the end of the Brazil match (so I have read as I didn't actually watch it, being out socialising that evening). Also I have a granddaughter who is being raised in Germany so that probably has decided it for me.

The other semi-final was very disappointing, losing to penalties the Dutch manager undid his brilliant decision to use Krul last time.

If you are, or are not, a fan of sidekick commentator Andy Townshend and his endless clichés, this might amuse:

Delighted for Germany and that goal was a real beauty - not messy Smile , it didn't come out of a scrappy scramble but was wonderfully well executed. I'm not a footie fan but I was gripped by the match.

Derserved winners Germany!

I'm puzzled that Messi is awarded player of the tournament. For the most misses?

Agree with comments above..... that was one of the better World Cup finals I have seen.
I was relieved that there was (only just in time) a proper result.... penalties are no way to settle the world championship.

Well done Germany - genuinely the best team effort.

I agree but would just like to mention a few other teams who performed well beyond expectations notably the USA Costa Rica and especially Chile who I thought were very unlucky to lose to Brazil

It's the successful underdogs who make such a tournament exciting but just keep an eye on these teams some or all of which could offer a real challenge in 2018 Smile

Germany were definitely the best team of the tournament but, as Ruddles says, much credit must go to the so called smaller teams such as USA, Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Algeria and Ghana.

Perhaps the emphasis is moving towards the smaller South American countries and Central America.

As for Portugal, Spain, Italy and Ingurland the less said the better.
