Well I believe he had to buy all his audience last night a drink because he turned up late and kept them all waiting

Let's hope the same thing happens on Radio 2 and we get three hours of Richard Allinson instead of him

I remember his days on Radio City in Liverpool when he used to do a Sunday afternoon show called 'The Sunday Service' and it was truly dreadful Mad

Yes, I'd rather have someone like Allinson sitting in, rather than yet another celeb.

So would I but he's already done the 3-6 slot, maybe next time.

I don't mind some celebs if they have some talent, know about music and are interesting. I enjoy Guy Garvey (is he a celeb ?), Iggy Pop and John Cooper Clarke on 6music.

They play some good music, and not the usual stuff.

Better in my view than yet another standin show.

Possible John, Lee and Patrick are contracted under the same agent as Graham is. It could be cheaper than we all reckon.

Worked with John a few weeks back and he's a great bloke. He does know his music (from a certain era) and has great rapport with an audience.

They're not. All four each have different agents.

Well if we believe what Mr Shennan says then the next time Mr Norton goes AWOL after October Richard should be deputising. But somehow I doubt it .

John Bishop is a very good stand up comedian and TV presenter, but I thought his Saturday morning show was a disaster. He started off by misnaming the Norwegian group A-ha as 'Haha', mispronounced 'phonetic' as 'phonectic', admitted to never having heard of The Beatles' Here Comes The Sun, and said Don MacLean's Castles In The Air was from the late 70s when it's from 1972.
And that was just the first twenty minutes, when I gave up and turned off.

Still, what do you expect, with Radio 2's obsession with celebrity halfwits.

I suspect that Bob Shennan could fall into this category himself, without the 'celebrity' obviously though. Who had heard of him before he came in as another Radio 2 destroyer? Rolling Eyes

I didn't even last as long as 20 minutes! His voice is just not for radio IMHO.

Angela I agree about Bob Shennan, I'd never heard of him apart from the fact that he'd been appointed to (this is from memory) set up a digital radio station for Channel 4 which never got off the ground..........

Says it all I'd say!

I would like to correct one thing here. As I remember it, it was Lesley Douglas who really began the systematic destruction of Radios 2 & 6 music (the two stations share the same controller) It was she who signed Chris Evans (who had previously been sacked by the BBC for his antics, and again by the, then, Virgin Radio for similar reasons) then Russell Brand (we know how that venture ended up) And George Lamb on 6 music. I still remember the furore that Lamb's appointment caused on the 6 music message boards, easily matched that of Evans' appointment on Radio 2. The difference being , of course, that sadly Evans is still with Radio 2! To me, it seems that Bob Shennan has merely continued Lesley Douglas' bad work.

I think I only listened for about 10 minutes Rolling Eyes Very disappointing as I thought he might be good in Graham's spot.

Didn't hear a whole show but enjoyed John's interview with namesake Des Bishop so much that I've booked for Des's show in Edinburgh. Not the best radio ever, but fine for a lazy Saturday morning.

If I was forced to choose with someone holding a gun to my head I think I'd actually have to opt for the dreaded motormouth Evans Shocked

Fortunately I don't though Very Happy
