On Saturday 26th July Charlotte Church will be covering for Dermot O Leary and Sunday 27th July Martine McCutcheon will be covering Paul O Grady. Still interested in these bizarre choice of cover. Why they can't use there current line up?

To be fair, Charlotte Church has presented shows on TV and radio before... but Martine McCutcheon? Oh dear.

Having just read that Charlotte is down to her last eight million and she needs to work i did wonder if she would be on R2 sooner or later.
What's wrong with Richard Allinson or some talent from local radio stations filling in?

I remember when they used to give Radio 2's 'best kept secrets' a bit of daytime exposure. Yes, Janice Long used to cover for Richard Allinson when he was on Saturday afternoons, Mo Dutta (Remember Him?) early weekend Brekky (now Anneka Rice's slot on Sats) Album Chart show (was on Monday [or was it Tuesday?] evenings after Drivetime) Alex Lester has covered for Sarah Kennedy (Dawn Patrol) Ken Bruce, Steve Wright (some bank holidays) and Drivetime. What's really stopping them from doing this nowadays?

Paul O’Grady’s show on BBC Radio 2 is being covered by Martine McCutcheon and Charlotte Church as he takes a two week break.

Singer Martine was on the radio yesterday, covering the 5-7pm slot, whilst Charlotte is getting ready to host the show this Sunday. She says: “I’m really looking forward to standing in for Dermot O’Leary while he’s away. I’m hugely passionate about all sorts of music and I can’t wait to share some of my favourite tracks with you on BBC Radio 2!”

Martine’s last radio gig was as a stand-in presenter at Heart last year when she covered Emma Bunton and Charlotte deputised for Zoe Ball’s weekend early breakfast show for two weeks in 2011.

Other fill-in presenters this summer include John Bishop, Patrick Kielty and Lee Mack. They are all covering for Graham Norton as he takes his annual summer break.

Lewis Carnie, Head of Programmes for BBC Radio 2 said: “Over the coming months, BBC Radio 2 will be showcasing some fantastic entertainment as we bring our listeners the best of the summer’s folk and arts festivals, and showcasing the finest music and comedy.”

In other stand-in news, Chris Evans will host the Arts Show on Friday 25th July for Claudia Winkleman. He said: “What a treat to have the whole of the world of the arts to play with. When I was offered the chance to kick off the Radio 2 Arts Show Summer Season, I said yes without hesitation. As well as reviewing the latest blockbusters at the Box Office, I look forward to delving deeper into the psyche of some of my favourite artists, and will enjoy working out exactly what makes the market tick in an exploration of art auctions.”

The Arts Show will also be covered by Anneka Rice, Simon Mayo, Vanessa Feltz and Ken Bruce over the coming weeks too.

Radio Today

Doesn't really answer my question as to why they don't let the likes of Janice Long & Alex Lester (and maybe others that I've forgotten) have a bit of daytime exposure.
Evans is an instant turn-off for me. This is enough to put me off, along with; He said: “What a treat to have the whole of the world of the arts to play with." I think 'play' being the operative word, when remembering my unfortunate incursions into his morning efforts. I will not be listening on Friday 25th July, neither will I be watching The One Show on Fridays, unless I am reliably informed that Evans will not be sharing the sofa with Alex Jones!

Wait for it - Penny Smith is covering for Vanessa soon whilst she covers Jeremy. So BBC london needs to cover those two, unless Penny dashes over afterwards.

When is Penny scheduled to be covering for Vanessa? Not keen on Vanessa, but will listen to Penny, has Sara Cox suddenly fallen out of favour?
