That is the question.

Too close to call, still

We will know the answer by this time tomorrow night.

I am delighted and relieved at the result. I have no connection with Scotland except for one ancestor a few generations back but I really didn't want them to leave the UK.

Thank goodness they are staying part of the union!

Like you,Eileen, I have no connections with Scotland (apart from the odd boyfriend a long time ago.Wink) so was surprised to find how uncommonly relieved and happy I was when I heard the No result on the radio.

Listening to some of the reaction today I admit to feeling sorry for the Scots who voted Yes but the overall majority have voted No so that's that

I think we're 'better together'

Am just hearing on the news that Alex Salmond has resigned. Not surprising I don't suppose. He says he will stand down as first minister in November when a new SNP leader will be chosen

Very happy that connon sense has prevailed and the Scots have made the right choice

Mind you I reckon that chap who bet £800000 on a 'No' result will be even more happy - I'm sure he'll be downing a few glasses of decent malt whisky tonight Very Happy

From what little I know about betting, ruddles, I would have thought that that chap would have had to have put a goodly sum of money on to win that amount!

Russia cries foul over Scottish independence vote..

Russian observers say referendum count took place in rooms that were too big and did not meet international standards

In an apparent attempt to mirror persistent western criticism of Russia's own elections, Igor Borisov – an accredited observer – said the poll failed to meet basic international norms.

Born in Scotland but denied the vote, glad it's all over.

No Becky you misunderstand what I was saying - the man actually bet the sum of £800000 on a 'No' result - can't remember exactly what the odds were but they were quite a lot better than evens so he must have made at least one million pounds plus his stake back Smile

Oh right,ruddles..I did misunderstand ..I think the amount threw me...so much money on one bet.... that's why,I think, my brain saw it as the amount won rather than the other way round! Smile

I did say I knew very little about betting... Wink Very Happy

Connon sense ? At first I thought that must be the place in Scotland but that's Conon Bridge. Wink

Actually at no stage did any bookmaker offer odds of better than 4/6 on a "No" vote. They had "No" as the hot favourite all through - their info was better than the opinion polls it seems. Confused

I think his bet was £800k, the low odds won him £200k so he got £1 million back?

So he 'won' £200k.

The man was actually on the JV Show today - don't know if anyone heard it

He came across as a really intelligent guy but of course most of the audience reaction seemed to be based on jealousy rather than any kind or rational response

Interestingly he mentioned the referendum in Canada a few years ago over the matter or Quebec and the Scottish situation was just like a carbon copy version of the Canadian result a few years earlier so well done to the man for spotting the precedent

OK he was a former banker but at least he had the good sense to get out and clearly was very sympathetic with much greater bank regulation Smile

I heard him Ruddles and he really had done his homework! I'd forgotten about the Quebec referendum. I say well done that it paid off for him.

As you said the comments weren't in his favour and were mostly from jealous individuals.

Sadly, we all know now that almost half the people in Scotland, and the majority of those in Glasgow and Dundee, do not want to be part of our country..... would prefer not to be British.

I'm surprised that he hasn't been head hunted by Tesco given all their present problems - I'm sure he's more than capable of sorting the problems out Smile
