With Richard gone, am now down to just listening to 3 regular shows on Radio 2

1-Bob Harris (at the weekend)

2-Huey Morgan

3-Johnnie Walker SOTS

Reason being the first two play a brilliant broad range of music-lots of tunes/artists I have never heard of and with 3 I just like JW and the music from that era-he also has sometimes some great guests with him on his show.

Long gone ware the days when I used to listen to Radio 2 as much as I could.

The station just not does cater for my mainstream listening any longer- Confused

Are others on this forum listening to more or less of Radio 2's output.

Much, much less than I used to.

To be fair, I 'dip into' bits of shows throughout the day, but don't have R2 on for hours as I used to.
Most notably, I can't listen to the Jeremy Vine show that I used to listen to every day, but which now has a standard of journalism that would disgrace The Beano. More surprisingly, can't listen to Sounds of the Sixties any more - having been an 'Avid' for more years than I care to remember!

I quite like Sundays, once EP (Ear Pollution) has finished.

I get fed up with unimaginative playlists, obsession with 'girly'-country-type artistes, and the fact that R2 has quietly become a massive publicity vehicle devoted to the promotion of West End shows.

I listen to 6Music quite a bit, and hear lots of interesting new music for grown-ups that wouldn't be out of place on R2, if only the lazy so-and-so's would be bothered to acquaint themselves with it.
R2 just seems to be in autopilot these days.

I agree that Radio 2 (weekdays 9-5) has become lazy, predictable and unchallenging. I am fed up with the relentless diet of Queen, ELO and Abba. Bland music for bland people. And as for the dire rubbish that Ken Bruce plays....

I listen to Radio 2 mainly because they do introduce me to some good new music, eg First Aid Kit, but apart from that I'm not really bothered, though Steve Wright plays some good music. SOT60s just plays ridiculous obscurities from 1961. If you want to hear good music from the 60s (Stones, Small Faces, Kinks etc), forget it. And as for the dreary SOT70s, there is only so much Eagles, Blondie and T Rex I can take.

Drove to the airport this morning at 3.30am. In the absence of RA listened to the World Service news which is broadcast by R4 at that time of night. Like other posters my listening to R2 is very infrequent. Sounds of the 60's & 80's mostly.

I tune in very little these days too, just for Pick of the Pops, Sounds of the Sixties and Sounds of the Seventies.
Apart from these, I check the listings daily in the hope that someone I can't stand is off and someone better is standing in for them.

My criticism still applies though.

I hardly listen these days either, dipping in to part of a few shows and that is it.

Like uncle buck I can't listen to Jeremy Vine daily now either, even though I've twice sat in on the show. I thought it was just me thinking 'I've heard this all before' or the story bordering on the ridiculous. Too young producers with little life experience I'm guessing.

I never missed a SOTS and always listened back if I missed part of it, but now I seldom bother after checking the playlist. Heard it yesterday, including Autumn Almanac (Wink ) but the rest wasn't anything to write home about.

Shame as I used to have it on from early morning and listen whenever I could.

I agree about SOTS Helen. I only heard part of it yesterday but looked at the music played and realised I missed nothing. Too many obscurities.

Whilst we're talking about Saturdays, I can't stand Graham Norton (annoying little twerp). However, what a brilliant POTP it was yesterday from 1969! Every song a classic. Now why can't SOTS play that sort of music more often?

Yes Schiz I agree absolutely - and as I've said before - for me 1969 was the best ever year for popular music Very Happy
