Magic is one of the stations, supposedly available, on my dab radios but when I tried to tune into it (after seeing Ian's post) it says 'Service not available' on both.

Magic listeners reach far beyond London, but they don't add that to.the Rajars, but the presenters do acknowledge this.

Any news when Richard is next back on Radio 2 covering for someone or is it really over for him with the Beeb.

Interesting to see his cover on the Drivetime show on Magic goes out from 6pm-9pm. Very Happy

Mark I can't see him covering while he's on Magic.

According to the write up on Radio Today he's actually doing that Helen. There is an agreement with Bauer and the BBC. Depends on certain other out comes it could stretch into the new year. You never know he might end up on Magic fulltime.

Magic goes National in January 2015

I can hardly see him doing a show on Magic then another on the same day on R2, even though it would more likely to be the other way round Mark.

Still can't get it on my dab radios and I don't fancy carrying the TV round the house if I want to listen to it in different rooms!! Shocked

I guess it was just coincidence that Richard's last show on Radio 2 on October 12th was the same date as his birthday. Wink

Lynn Parsons used to present Early Breakfast on Radio 2 during her cover days and went onto her own Smooth Radio show for 10am. Used to hear her speaking to Simon Bates, as the studios are in London it can be done. I also think Sara Cox has done Radio 2 early then covered a show on R1 on the same day.

You could be correct as Sara, Patrick K, Michael B seem to be covering now, so possibly be Christmas if Richard does do next time?

I can get Magic (London) on my tablet via the "Tune In Radio" app. The tablet is much easier to move from room to room than the TV or DAB radio Very Happy

Great to hear Richard back on the radio.

Head to head with Simon Mayo on Radio 2-no competition-Richard every time.

Early doors but with some Magic jingles as well -fabulous.

Well its adverts and jingles ( everything I hate about commercial radio) interspersed with a little of RA. Tunes are not bad though.

You forgot to mention the travel news -which Richard does himself-where's Bobbi Pryor when you need her!

Thats the magic format, self op. Used to read the news themselves too years ago when it was Melody. I'm sure Richard will make it sound different with his own character.

Thought his first day on Magic was excellent-he seems vey comfortable with the format etc.

Some good songs/music played.

Looking forward to future shows.

In the recent past Lynn Parsons has done the Early Breakfast Show on R2 on Saturdays and then done her own show on Smooth at 10am so it's not impossible for someone to do shows on two different networks on the same day Smile

If required Richard could present 2/3 shows a day-he loves broadcasting.

I remember tuning into Lynn Parsons on a few occasions where she presented on Radio 2 and then on Smooth-thought it was great at the time.

Much as I enjoy listening to Richard, I'll stick with Drivetime, the second hour mainly, as I can do without ads.

Thought I'd have a quick listen in last night and all I heard for the first few minutes were adverts... I tuned out.

These days Drivetime is the only programme I listen to on weekdays on Radio 2, so, much as I like RA I dislike the advertisements more, so I'll be sticking with Simon Mayo.

The adverts don't bother me. I would rather listen to Richard Allinson's voice than Simon Mayo's and the music is good too. I just wish that I could listen to it on an ordinary radio. Smile

It's almost the same for me essexlady.

I have found Magic FM on the internet radio and stored the station so maybe I'll tune in on Friday for a little while.

Unfortunately I think she does! I wish she would stick to the latter so that we could have someone better on early on R2.
