This took place in a theatre so I think it belongs here:
We went to see Michael Portillo on stage last night. It was a very entertaining evening with plenty of good stories, interesting info about his parents, extended family, political experiences, past and current TV programmes - all delivered with his customary good humour. It was followed by questions from the audience.
The whole show lasted an hour and forty minutes with no interval and was well worth the visit. |

I posted this about him in the Great British Railway Journeys thread,Eileen.
"I was one of those cheering loudly when Mr Portillo lost his seat in the 1997 General Election because of my perceived view of him, which was that he was a smug individual but watching him on this programme has changed my perception of him..if anything I think he is a little shy...his obvious interest in everything he comes across is a pleasure to watch..."
I would imagine he was a charming host last night. |

Probably much too decent a chap to be allowed to become Prime Minister of this country, much to our detriment.
I still wish he would go back into politics. |

I bet it was a lovely evening Eileen.
I watched his lastest continental rail journey in Russia last night and found it very interesting.

Quite apart from his excellent TV railway adventures Michael still has his ear to the ground when it comes to current politics
He may give the impression of having moved away from his former 'Thatcherite' views but when it comes to topics like immigration and the EU he is almost certainly far more in touch with the views or ordinary British voters than any of the current crop of high profile politicians - Nigel Farage and David Davis excepted _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
