Across the internet, social media has replaced forums for discussion (sadly) but I think specifically here none of us listen to as much Radio 2 as we used to, and we're resigned to the fact that what we don't like isn't going to change. A shame, really.

I think it's better to post only when you have something worthwhile to say rather than simply do so for the sake of it

Having said that I suppose someone has to get the ball rolling by saying something worthwhile and interesting Smile

I used to be someone who listened to Radio 2 for much of the day.
Now I'm just someone who tries to, several times a day.

I used to be someone who listened to Radio 2 all day long, now I struggle to find anything worth switching it on for, especially weekdays/daytime. The times when I do switch on are at weekends for SOTS, POTP and SOT70s. Most of the other shows which are worth tuning in for are too late (10pm) and so I catch them up later on the computer.

I see no one's found it, maybe they haven't looked. So if I'm being ignored, it makes me wonder if it's worth bothering. Perhaps others have felt the same! If anyone is interested, the aforementioned post is on this board: Favorite Radio 2 Presenter of all time.

A few of us are still here LEE. I did see your post and I am sorry not to have posted back in reply. Embarassed When I log in I do normally look at all of the new posts since my last visit, regardless of which topic I have had the reminder for.

Mark, you'll recall I started this forum a looooong time ago, since then I've stopped listening to Radio 2, even Desmond Carrington doesn't have me as a listener anymore, so I rarely post except in response.

I've been away a week and come back to finding 24 threads had new postings so there is still some activity.

We have not had new members recently.

And I can't keep up with deleting 100's of bogus registrations (the list says they are members but they are not accepted, weird system eh?) The process of deleting takes about a minute each, cutting and pasting their ID onto another page, what a pain. I need about 3 spare hours...

Sadly, like a lot of other people who regularly post on this site, I have all but checked out of Radio 2.

Very sad and just tune into Bob Harris and Huey Lewis shows regularly these days.

Imho the station needs a massive overhaul and a new crop of presenters brought in with new ideas/formats etc to get me interested again.

I'm sure many will join you in thanking you for keeping the board running John.

I think many are put off by all the celebrity presenters at times, (myself included) and don't bother to listen. I'm also guilty but I think you've got to look past them, check the playlist and use the extended 'Listen Again' on the iPlayer and then post a reminder on here. It's easy to forget a trail you've heard in the car so I'm always pleased when someone posts a heads up.

For me, Radio 2 reached it's pinnacle in the latter part of the 1990s into the first few years of the 2000s. In those days I'd be listening every moment I could. If I was on holiday, then it would be more or less all day and into the evening. The slide downhill began when a certain Lesley Douglas took over the reins, and the obsession with 'celebrity' seemed to start, with the steady cull of many of the presenters that I really enjoyed in her version of 'the night of the long knives'. As I have said previously, that process has continued under Bob Shennan. He who brought Richard Allinson back into the fold after Lesley Douglas' axe and has now axed him again himself! Maybe certain specialist shows do need a celeb presenting them (e.g. Sunday's programme of show tunes. Elaine Page might be an ideal presenter of such a show, having a musical show past)
Of the current midweek 'daytime' schedule, it's only Ken Bruce & Simon Mayo that I'd willingly listen to. If I'm off work on a Saturday, then it's really the morning shows, very little in the afternoon (pre 2003, I'd listen nearly all day and into the night!) How times have changed and not for the better!
Yes, I'd like to add my thanks to John for creating this message board and keeping it running, along with the other R2 'Timeline' site.

I would like to thank John as well, especially for the delightful people I have "met" on here.

My Radio2 listening remains as ever devoted to Friday and Sunday evenings and sometime the specials on weekday nights. Desmond Carrington who did a lovely prog last week re wireless memories, FNIMN, Clare Teal and, with reservations, Moira Stuart, although I am glad to say Moira's series is ending this Sunday and hopefully will be replaced by Don Black.

Any other R2 listening is purely by chance.

Can I add my thanks too. I don't come by often, but more often than I listen to Radio 2. And I was the one with a radio in every room so I didn't miss a minute of it as I went about my daily routine. Duh!

Mark, there is no list of registered users. The 'member list' is garbage as explained above more than once.
