Listened to Michael's show last week and this week (as I type) and I think it's absolutely
fantastic.
There is a really great selection of music and its exactly the sort of show that should be on radio 2 in the daytime!!
Someone said it was the same sort of music you'd hear on the Ken Bruce show???
I really can't believe anyone would say that, the two shows are polar opposites.
There is absolutely no variety in the Ken Bruce show and there is more variety in one two hour show from Michael than you'll get in a whole week of Ken's show.

I think it varies a lot, we listened a few weeks back and it was good but other times it's just not to my liking.

I agree it's not the melodies for you type show that you'd love to hear Helen.
As a show in its own right I think it's really good though as is the Paul O'grady show beforehand.
Why did Alan Titchmarsh leave anyway?

I think that depends upon which era the original poster was referring to. Gary Bones hasn't always been Ken Bruce's producer. Ken Bruce has been on Radio 2 since the 1980s, so it's perfectly possible that he's had a succession of producers in that time.

I have a feeling it was to do with money Gazmando. I recall reading something a little while after Alan left but I can't remember the details now. I believe that was why it was quite a sudden departure for Alan, it all seemed to happen in a couple of weeks.

It's Michael himself I feel you have to be in the mood for as well as the music he plays. Really enjoy Paul O Grady's show though, something I wouldn't have said before he took over!

Well, I have a confession to make.....
I have listened to a few now, and I have decided I like the Michael Ball show too.
There, I've said it.

Yes Michael Ball Show on a Sunday evening is a good listen. He plays a wide range of music which for the most part I like.

Certainly Michael seems to enjoy his show, unlike some of the other presenters on Radio 2 who seem to be just going through the motions.

On the local news tonight was a report of a special screening in Salford tonight of a Christmas musical TV film for BBC 2 that stars Michael Ball. (and Imelda Staunton)

It was written by Victoria Wood. I like her work so I'll be watching it.

I think Michael's Sunday shows are consistently great, with a great and wide ranging selection of music.
I get so annoyed when Michael stands in for Ken Bruce and gets lumbered with Gary Bones picking the music.
Why can't Michael bring his producer with him or pick the music himself as he shows a great love of music during his Sunday shows.
