I listened to this on Radio 4 Extra today. There were some new clips and some that I had heard before. Kenny was pure genius, there simply isn't anyone like him.

Music journalist Mark Paytress re-assesses the pioneering Kenny Everett and his place in broadcasting history - using a host of clips of the genius at work.

Through interviews with friends, fans and colleagues along with unheard examples of his maverick style on the BBC and pirate ship airwaves, we delve into Everett's colourful style - and restore his name amongst the radio greats.

We also look at the little-known work with his great friends, The Beatles. Everett was the first to play Strawberry Fields, toured America with them, and even produced 2 Fan Club Albums!

Here's a great irony. When Kenny Everett made a, supposedly throwaway remark about 'bombing Russia' in the 1980s, there was, quite rightly, a public outcry about such a proposal. No doubt about possible consequences. Perfectly understandable at the time (1980s-90s - when the 'cold war' was still at it's height). What has changed? I am not a fan of the North Korean regime, but why 'wind them up' with films such as this? Especially when you wouldn't dare have done the same with the former Soviet Union? Did they not expect a reaction? Especially when a barber in the UK who previously offered a hairstyle like the North Korean leader's, got the exact opposite reaction to what was hoped for. If, as alleged, they were found to be responsible for hacking, can they really be considered such a backward nation?

Saw an 'advert' on the Radio 4 Facebook page for Kenny's stint on Desert Island Discs in 1994 as it is 20 years since his death.

I will be having a listen to that when I have the time.

Someone else on that page mentions a Great Lives programme about Kenny with Chris Tarrant talking about him

Kenny was a man who was well ahead of his time

I wasn't very keen on him back in the sixties and early seventies but almost fifty years on I now appreciate just what a genius he was Smile
