....on Classic FM with Andrew Collins

I like Andrew Collins and love lots of music from the films so this programme didn't need much selling to me!

It started off with the wonderful theme from Zulu by John Barry (Andrew had this as his opening music on 6 Music) and is continuing (I'm listening as I type) with classic sounds from great films..

Andrew’s first programme on Classic FM will be a celebration of classic film scores, composed by movie music legends such as Bernard Herrmann, Elmer Bernstein and John Williams. In other shows throughout the month of March, he will feature music from winners of the Bafta Games Awards, the big movies of 2015 and the most popular film scores from the Classic FM Hall of Fame.

"Like many people, I found my way into classical music through film soundtracks, so it is with great pleasure and a sense of privilege that I join Classic FM to host Saturday Night At The Movies," Andrew said.

"It's a show that has long entertained me as a listener, combining my twin lifelong loves: music and cinema. I look forward to mixing the familiar with some buried treasure over the coming months."

Sam Jackson, Classic FM's Managing Editor, said: "Andrew is a first-rate broadcaster, whose infectious enthusiasm for film soundtracks makes him the perfect host for Saturday Night at the Movies. I am thrilled to welcome him to the Classic FM family."

Hi Becky. Do we have any idea what happened to Howard Goodall? I don't get to listen on Saturday and Classic's listen again has been off until recently

Goodall's left to concentrate on his composing, apparently. However, the fact his stand-in Tommy Pearson kept referring to Goodall as being on holiday makes me dubious of this claim. Seems like Classic FM treating their presenters like crap, as usual.

Anyway, I like Andrew Collins and look forward to hearing his shows. I do hope he gets a chance to play Out of Africa, Lord of the Rings, Superman, and Theme from Onedin Line - like every other Classic FM show does every day!

On the subject of film music programmes, Matthew Sweet on BBC Radio 3 (also every Saturday) is well worth catching.

Hi Number Six,
I see Ian's helped you re Howard Goodall. I couldn't have helped you as I'm not a regular listener of Classic FM.
I saw this programme chosen as a pick of the day,in my listings magazine, otherwise I wouldn't have known it was on..

Thanks for the Matthew Sweet tip,Ian.
