This Friday will see Alan Dedicoat's last newsreading shift after 28 years on the station. With his departure it means we've now seen the last of the newsreader/continuity announcers that they used to employ - taking turns on Nightride, YATNAM, and The Early Show.

That's a shame Andy. I met him when I went to Radio 2 a few years ago and he was very nice.

On slightly different note it was nice to hear Fran Godfrey on the day shift yesterday.

I'm sorry but find few of the new lot very easy to listen to at all, several of them get the intonation completely wrong.

Will he still be 'The voice of the balls' on the national lottery?
Please excuse my ignorance but what does YATNAM stand for?

I think it was You And The Night And The Music (?)

If you read the article I think it says he'll still do the lottery.

Yes, sorry that was You and the Night and the Music.

Deadly will still be doing the lottery and Strictly and presumably working on Children in Need night.

I'll won't miss him, he's always come across quite full of himself and liked to build his part up too much.

Plus, no doubt he'll come back... like everyone else who supposedly leaves!

I'm inclined to agree Ian

Rumour has it within BBC circles that the man isn't much liked by most of his colleagues Smile

A nice tribute from Simon Mayo and others at the start of Drivetime yesterday, lasting a good 5 minutes.

I like Dedicoat's voice and diction, speaking with authority and emphasising the right words....although it's not exactly a difficult job.

The hopeless Claire Runacres lacks all the above. And Moira Stewart is starting to get her words mixed up. Still, she does tick three PC boxes: she's female, black and elderly, so the Beeb will want to keep her.

She is the worst, her voice just doesn't carry and I have to turn up the volume to hear her most of the time. (I'm not going deaf either. Wink )

Okay so the new lot have to write the bulletins and read them but to me the most important part is how it is delivered and the new lot aren't a patch on Fran, Dedly and the rest who have departed.
