Have just heard that Val Doonican has died aged 88.
Sad news, have fond memories of Paddy McGinty's Goat on Childrens Favourites.

RIP

Whilst as a child I recall absolutely hating his Saturday night TV shows I'm really sad to see that he is no longer with us as I loved the era during which he was prominent which has lots of happy memories for me - still not sure about those sweaters though _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I wasn't a great fan at the time, but my folks were so I watched his TV shows regularly up till about 1970.
Listening to clips this week I realise now that he had a very fine voice. I have a couple of sweaters which will remind me of Val Doonican when I wear them this winter. Hmm did he record all his shows in the winter? ) _________________ -

Walk Tall was a nice catchy song--though I can't help also thinking of The Barron Knights' version!
However, he did an appalling cover of Bob Lind's 'Elusive Butterfly'. |

He had genuine charm, he sang well and I always watched and enjoyed his TV shows.

Desmond Carrington tonight had a long feature about Val which included several songs and excerpts from an interview which Desmond did with Val about 8 or 9 years ago. It is well worth a listen and comes in the second half of the programme. |
