I heard on the 2pm R2 news that Cilla Black has died at her home in Spain.

I loved Cilla when I was a teenager so really sad to hear of her death.
RIP

I was/am a fan of her singing rather than her TV shows, though of course she was good at that, a charming lady, very much enjoyed the TV series where she was so accurately portrayed by Sheridan Smith
RIP Cilla _________________ -

I too preferred to see her sing rather than the Surprise Surprise shows John. I saw her at the London Palladium season with Frankie Vaughan during a half term holiday staying with relatives in (I Googled it) 1964.
Also enjoyed Sheridan Smith's portrayal of her last year.

To be honest, she wasn't the greatest singer in the world but she was a talented TV presenter who had the common touch and she thoroughly deserved her success and popularity. She was of course around at the right time, the mid 60s, when the old class system was effectively dismantled and people like Cilla could get up and make a go of it.
I too enjoyed Sheridan Smith's portrayal a few months ago.
And 'Anyone Who Had A Heart' is such a good song. It's been in my head for the past hour! |

Very sad news indeed and again what a relatively young age to pass on
I was never a huge fan - she always reminded me of the female equivalent of Gene Pitney with that nasal singing style but having said that I think she was a really nice lady who never let stardom make her forget her scouse roots and undoubtedly she had a great rapport and great empathy with ordinary members of the public which came over in her TV shows
I think the death of her husband Bobby at such an early age hit her hard despite her putting on a brave face at the time but at least hopefully she is now at peace with him _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
